So What Happened?

Thanks everyone with your advise...I am seeing a Dr for my diabetes, he has increased my insulin..i am taking insulin almost 5 times a day, i have been on this diet for almost one month, but just this past week for some reason its been pretty high, i do see my diabetes Dr. this coming Thursday, so lets see what he says....
My OBGYN is telling me i a doing ok, my weight is fine, and the baby seems to be doing fine...just having a hard time controlling my sugar level...which the nutrisionist said my food intake is ok and that i am actually not eating enough carbs...and that its my hormones that are making my levels high...
this is bit stressful, especially when they keep telling me how it will effect the baby...but I am seriously having a hard time keeping my glucose level normal
i have also noticed that lately i am getting more hungry even after i eat... is all this normal, or do i just have issues?

Are you seeing an endocrinologist? If not, demand that you see one. Too high of blood sugars can be dangerous during your pregnancy.

Almost all insulins are approved during pregnancy by the FDA. Which insulins are you taking? I'm hoping they have taught you to carb count and to make correction doses when glucose levels are too high.

If you're not seeing a Diabetes Educator, I'd highly recommend it too. The American Association of Diabetes Educators should have a tool to find one in your local area. You may also want to call your insurance - the services should be covered because of your diagnosis. Certified Diabetes Educators (CDEs) are usually either RN's, Registered Dieticians or Pharmacists by training and go through much preparation before earning their credentials.

Good luck. I spent 8 years in the world of Diabetes Treatment selling insulin and other injectible medications. I'd be happy to point you in the direction of some credible education/information sources if you need them.

Mt girlfriend just had a baby 1 month ago and she had GD. Also injected insulin. She was induced at 37 weeks because of her high sugar levels and the baby was born healthy and a light weight at 5lbs 10oz, she is now questioning if she had GD becasue they told her even if she was using insulin she was gonna have a big baby. Bottom line she and baby, healthy! Best of luck you are almost there!

I had GD with my son and was given a food plan to follow. I also had to inject insulin and check my sugars several times a day. My levels were off the charts but I did what I could and tried to manage things the best I knew how. I did have my son at 35 weeks 6 days however I also had slightly elevated blood pressure, though not pre eclampsia. My son was born at a healthy 6#s 15.4oz and only stayed in the NICU(due to my GD)for the amount of time required to test his blood sugar levels. He was born in the am and came home with me the next morning when I left so know that if you do have your child early due to GD you can have a great outcome. Make sure you talk things over with your doctor and bring up all your concerns as everyone's diet is different and you never know what tips they might be able to give you.

I went to a holistic doctor; some call them herbalist or compounding pharmacy. My ob/gyn bashed it of course but it's only natural due to its alternative medicine and it takes away from his money.

My holistic doc recommended Juicefestiv (bought at whole foods store) or Juice Plus(can only be ordered); which are organic vegetable and fruit pills, organic omega 3 fish oil (bought at local whole foods store) along with other safe herbals. My ob/gyn was shocked that I didn't get high blood pressure or gestational diabetes due to I went from 145 lbs to 269 lbs when pregnant; he thinks it was just walking 30 minutes a day but I wasn't telling him considering how he reacted when i asked about alternatives. I gave birth to my second daughter healthy 7lbs8oz. So maybe look an alternative route with a CERTIFIED holistic/herbalist/compounding pharmacy.

Your almost due...congrats on your little one hope you get to feeling better soon.

I went through this as well, just keep monitoring like you should so your doctor can make adjustments as necessary. It is stressful but remember it's temporary and your baby will be fine.

No need to worry. You're almost there. Due to the GD your doctor will monitor you closely and you'll have to have some additional stress tests (you probably already know this). Stick to your diet plan and follow doctors orders - it'll be fine!
