My question is that did any of your kids came out looking nothing like you(moms) or your partner? Or do them seem to take after someone more in either of your families?

I have brown eyes and brown hair with a little redish tint. My husband has hazel eyes and black hair. Our 2 daughters both has brown eyes and brown hair and dirty blondish/brown hair. Our son came out with blue eyes and his hair is dirty blonde kind of with redish tint also. Everyone mostly joke with me saying our son isn't my husband's child, and that I must cheated on him. WHICH I DIDN'T. Some mess with us saying he was switched at birth, which he wasn't either. It kind of gets me mad, stress and sad to see how people can say and joke stuff like that? I know they probably see our family of 5 and look at 4 of us and see our 2 daughters look like us in ways and our son they look at and question the fact rather he's ours or was he adopted. Can any of you moms relate to this?? Should I get a DNA test on my son to prove he's ours? Or should I leave it as it is and not worried about it? I know my dad has blue eyes and my mom has hazel eyes also. His parents(my husband) mom has blue eyes and his dad brown eyes. My father has a redish hair also. So do you think he takes after my dads side more? Let me know. thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the feed back. I ask my husband before if you thinks our son is his and he tells me yes. I ask him do you want me to get a DNA test and he tells me no. I see certain things in our son that reminds me of my husband. The smile, laugh, the hyper ways. I know he believes me and I belive he is ours!! I know certain family memembers who dont look like nothing their parents. Kinda like my cousin. She came to look like my fathers child. But she's not. But her mom was brownish hair and her dad(which is my fathers brother) has brown hair also. So i'm guessing she took after her fathers side.Came out with redish hair. Also because our grandma has the same redish hair. So yes I know gentics play a big roll.

I got this with my third. BTW all of my kids look like sibbling so there is no mistaking their identity...However, I am light skinned, light hair that has been touched up with higlights and light eyes. All three have taken after their father who has brown eyes, dark brown hair, and oh yes the enviable olive skin..my DH is an ethnic mix :) Anyway the older two have blue eyes and #3 took completely after him. I was picking him up from Sunday School when the volunteer asked me where I got him?? At first I didn't understand....He thought I had adopted him...Yikes! then another person chimmed in and said oh you should see his Daddy...a mini me he is....

Oh my stars..I was startled a bit as while he looks like Daddy he resembles me a bit through the eye shape etc...Oh well. I know he's mine LOL...

I agree with Rachel. You are dealing with some ignorant people. I wouldn't get stressed and sad over it, just don't respond. If they joke, don't fake laugh, just leave or ignore. They don't deserve an answer and it seems to really peave you. Seriously, is it any of their business anyways?
By no means should you get a DNA test, unless your husband is the one not believing?
If you are personally interested in knowing more about genetics, there is a cool eye color calculator on this website. You put in the eye color of you and your spouse and then the parents of you and your spouse. It will then show you the likelihood of your children having different eye colors. Since there is no "hazel" I suggest choosing green or blue for your husband.

Also, this website explains hair color. Very interesting.

You don't need a test, he's yours. Who cares what other people think? My nephew has very light blonde hair and my bro and SIL are both very dark brunettes. It doesn't matter. Sometimes genes come outta no where. Just let it roll off and laugh at the questions you get.
Enjoy that little boy! Good luck! ;)

It is not so unusual for children to look like someone else in your family tree. We have a niece and a nephew who are the spitting image of the Mom and Dad - dark hair and eyes. Their little sister is blond haired with green eyes - she favors her Grandmother when she was a child. You have no responsibility to prove to others that he is your child. Don't take it so seriously. Genetics is a funny thing - you have MANY relatives who helped make up who you are - and your son.

My ex husband and I both have dark brown hair and eyes. Our daughter is dirty blonde with brown eyes and our son has light blonde hair and blue eyes. We both have family members with light hair and eyes so we know he just has recessive genes. Don't worry about what those people are saying. They are stupid.

Well apparently the people you talk to are uneducated. You have two sets of genes if your son has blue eyes then you and your husband must have a trait for blue (brown is dominant that's why you both have brown/hazel) so your son got a blue trait from both of you.
My response to those people would be go open a biology text book.

Genetics are funny. Keeps us on our toes. lol. My dad has reddish brown hair and his beard comes out really red (at least before he turned grey) but neither of his parents had red naturally in their hair. In our family heritage we are related to a 5th cousin of an old queen of England and she had....red hair. They were always teased that he was the milkman's son. Just find a funny way to handle it. Don't worry what everyone thinks. Just go along and say "I know... Isn't it amazing."

My first daughter looks white, she's dirty blonde and light brown eyes, my second child looks Japanese or Asian style dark hair and eyes, and husband and I are Mexican , (my greatgrandfather was English ) so you never know , my husband looks Russian type, Asian eyes, white , brown reddish hair. So God knows what else runs in our blood but only ignorant people open their mouths to ask such things.( talking about the people who doubts about your kids )

When my girl was born she looked exactly like daddy...until she hit about 1. From then on she's been my twin.
I am French/Irish, my guy is Irish/Mexican.
I'm super white, blondish hair, green eyes, freckles. My guy has all dark features and olive skin. He's gotten a few comments, mostly from people he knows, and he just says she may look just like her mommy, but she acts just like me (which is totally true btw). Just to mess with people, when they say she's my twin I usually respond with something like "Oh I am just her babysitter," and after the look of shock, I tell them I am just kidding.
Try to let it slide off your back. You both know the truth. =)

I am one-fourth Italian with almost black hair, brown eyes and olive skin, and my 20 month old son has the whitest blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin you have ever seen. My hubby has brown eyes, but did have the blonde hair as a kid. If I hadn't had a c-section and heard my doc say" he's blonde!" I may have doubted my own maternity and I carried him for 9 months! I think its fun having a kid who looks nothing like you....who cares what everyone else thinks?

If you've ever done one of those trait charts in Health Class, you'd know how quirky traits can be!

My daughter has green eyes and blond hair. (I'm brown/brown) No one in either of our families has green eyes. We have no idea where they came from, but they're beautiful!

My son looks NOTHING like me. I mean, nothing at all. You'd never know he was my kid if you looked at us together. He looks just like my dad, actually.

I think you need to develop a sense of humor about this. Unless anyone is *seriously* accusing you of cheating, try to lighten up. Genetics work in funky ways, and part of the fun of having kids is finding out what they're going to look like as they grow.
I bet if you went back in your family traits and did the percentage charts for you and your husband, you'll find that your kids have displayed the recessive traits for both of you.

I think a DNA test is way over the edge, unless you honestly believe they might not be yours.
