Gauze Stuck to Daughter's Wound

Poor lamb. I need to get this gauze off - it's only been since this morning - but it is really really stuck. Mind you, I'm not talking about the sticky adheasive tape. I'm talking about the gauze stuck to where she badly skinned her knee last night. I even put neosporin on the gauze before applying it this morning so we wouldn't have this problem and it didn't help. I'm currently trying baby oil. Unfortunately, our tub is in the bathroom that's currently under construction, so soaking in a warm bath is out. Do you have any suggestions??

Thanks, Daddy, for letting our girl ride her two wheeler without her kneepads! lol.

What can I do next?

You could also try a soaked--and I mean dripping wet--cloth to help it. Or if possible, have her put her knee in a big pot or pan of water. A pad stuck to my daughter's knee when she was little and we put a dripping wet cloth and it worked.

place a warm wet wash cloth over top and let it soak for a few, than it should come off easier.

Just get a wet washcloth, and put it directly on that area... and leave it there and keep it wet, so that it comes off.

Just use a bowl and a wet wash cloth.
You don't need a bathtub.

Could you soak a washcloth in warm water, don't wring it out, and apply it to the gauze for a few minutes to loosen it up?
Ouch... good luck!

I'd suggest heating a good amount of water until boiling. Pour over salt (pref. Sea Salt) and let the salt dissolve.

(make sure bowl and mixing spoon are sterile first).

When mixture has cooled to a comfortable temp, soak a clean washcloth in the liquid. Then press onto her wound (don't rub or dab, just hold it like a compress against her skin) until the cloth has cooled. Repeat the process with more warm solution, until everything is soft and the gauze comes off without trouble.

I use hydrogen peroxide to remove stuck dressings.

I always just cut the extra gauze off so it can't be pulled on and possible rip the scab off. Then I just wait for it to heal, it is not like some gauze embedded in the scab is going to hurt anything so long as you keep it clean. Didn't your mom ever tell you not to pick at scabs?

Once, only once on myself did I try to melt the scab to get the gauze off. It started bleeding since I took the scab off, something to think about.....

Saturate it with baby oil and then a long, warm shower will most likely do the trick. Knee and elbow scabs are the worst!

Why not wet a warm wash cloth and soak it that way? Or pour peroxide over it?

You already have some good advice for getting the gauze off, which it sounds like is the woven gauze. But what you need to use here on out is the non-stick pads. It's more like a cottony pad of cloth rather than cheesecloth gauze.

NON-STICK FIRST AID PADS. Same spot you get the gauze in the first aid isle.
