My boys were 5 weeks early & were on similac neosure [higher calorie formula] but due to gas i changed them to enfamil gentlease thinking it would help their gas...they are still crying from gas pains & passing gas like old men. I've tried Mylecon drops & just got gripe water...Does anyone have any other suggestions/remedies???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone!!!
I called the doc and they said if the crying from gas continues after the weekend they want to see the boys to rule out reflux. how do they check for reflux? is there any way I would be able to tell before going to the doctor? We have the boys using Dr. Browns bottles, we burp them twice as long as we normally would, and we are now adding the mylecon drops to the last ounce of their bottle.

Is there a big difference between the Dr. Browns bottles and MAM bottles?

My sister-in-law uses Little Tummies Gas Relief Drops for her little girls and has had good results. Her youngest is about 7 weeks old.

I would talk to your pediatrician. My LO was the same way (I breastfeed, though) and it turned out he had milk intolerance so the milk proteins were causing the gas. Once I became lactose free it really helped. Some gassiness is normal but if they becoming upset, crying, pulling up their legs, etc, it might be something else.
Gently bicycling their legs to help push out the gas, holding them in an almost sitting position (I hold my lo under his legs so his but is hanging between my arms and my body if that makes sense), warm baths, all can help.
Good luck

Honestly, lots of babies have trouble with the soy. Talk to your pediatrician and see what he/she recommends at this point. Good luck!!

Dr Brown bottles are great and they have a patented flow system. Try it out and am sure it will help with the gas.

Try changing bottles... some bottles, accumulate air bubbles in the bottle as the baby drinks.... more air intake thusly.

I loved the "MAM" brand bottles... which my son loved. I breastfed but used bottles too with pumped milk. Anyway, it is BPA free and does not accumulate air in it... you can find it at Amazon. It is not commonly found in stores.
It is used commonly in Europe.

Or try another bottle.... it could just be that they are intaking air as they drink... thus, gas/air. As a matter of trouble shooting, I would try another bottle as well... versus just keep changing formula. But the Formula may also cause gas... each baby being different.

Newborns have immature systems... so they get gassy.
At least they are farting... my daughter as an infant did NOT fart nor hardly burped... she had bad gas pains... but the Mylicon helped a lot, for her.

all the best,
Susan

Congrats on your twins! My twin boys also had trouble w/ gas; the Mylecon drops helped a little in the beginning, but it turned out to be reflux for one of them, which did not show up until they were about 5-6 wks old (and they were premies also at 32 wks) and he was helped by baby Zantac and another I can't recall the name of now, and by sitting semi-upright for 45 min after each feeding. You definitely should check w/ your pediatrician to see if there is an underlying problem; also, bottles can make a difference as has already been posted.

Congrats! I have two month old twin girls and one of them is very gassy and she cries a lot. My first was like this too, what helped for me (I am breastfeeding) was to remove dairy. Perhaps you can change to a soy formula or alimentum, something that does not have dairy in it. The dairy protein (not lactose) is very hard on a lot of babies. Give your ped. and see if they agree with the switch.
