Gardner is basically a suburb of KC so umm ... yeah the pollution probably won't increase that much (especially since there are two airports IN gardner already).
As for population ... it'll probably increase some.
Hi,
My husband and I are thinking about moving to Gardner maybe. We are worried about the intermodal going in there though. What do you think it will do to Gardner? We are worried about how busy it will get and the pollution. What is your opinions?
Thanks!

If you want a small type town Gardner is nice but in the last 20 years it has grown and has many little subdivisions and more of a 'town' area. There are more restaurants, more schools, Walmart, Walgreens, etc. It is still the small town feel. I like a small town feel. I will agree with Jane K that it's not like Leawood with super planning and there are nice homes by not so nice homes but they are working on much of that in the near furture I hear. As for the intermodal that's why Gardner turned it down or voted it out and Edgerton annexed the area so no big change there except that Edgerton gets the taxes on it. There are many trucks on 56 highway and it will get more I know but the railroad is fixing it up to look very nice now and I hope they will fix the traffic some how but not sure. Pollution could be an issue but if you are out farther in Gardner I doubt that will be a problem although I never lived by an intermodal area before. I wouldn't let it stop me though. I like rural areas and it's so peaceful if you get off the main roads. There are other towns not far from Gardner and Intermodal too that would be within distance of Gardner. The train doesn't stop you from getting in our out of town on I35 or 56 highway. I've seen many areas of other towns, even Overland Park, that have the nice house not so nice house situation too. It's just what you're looking for. I like the peaceful feel being out a bit.
my aunt lived in Gardner and I didnt like it, we visited often after her stroke and needed help getting moved and settled in a assisted living facility. My ex-brother in law lived in Edwardsville and between both I guess I liked Gardner better only slightly. Overland Park and Olathe seemed nicer to me.
I would never move to Gardner. Forget about the intermodal stuff, I wouldn't move there if that wasn't even involved. I'm sure when it does happen, that the traffice situation will be terrible, more so than now. Seems like there is always construction going on when I go there. The town is too hodge podge to me. Nice area, crappy area. Nice area, crappy area. All mixed in together. There are train tracks right in the middle of town, and you have to wait for the train. The highway is right there, so you would not have any problem getting in or out of town. But in saying all this, when you do get to the downtown part, I like that. They have some nice little shops and restaurants there, and the people are nice. But that doesn't make me wanna live there. Sorry.
A few years ago, we stayed in Gardner, visiting my niece in a rehab facility. It was a very nice small town, and frankly, I like small towns! It is close enough to KC to get to KC easily for events, big city stuff, etc., without the constant hassle of big city.
We were only there a couple of days, so I really don't know what else to say about it. It is nicely located near KC and such, though.
