Anyone have experience with a ganglion cyst? My husband is having surgery for one in November. He is thinking he'll have to be off of work for 3 weeks. (He's an electrician) Is that true/right? Also, his birthday is coming up and I plan on having a surprise party for him on the 6th of Nov, his surgery is the 1st of Nov. I'm pretty confident, he should be feeling better by then, but will he? From what I've read there isn't much pain after surgery from this.

Thanks.

Kind of depends on where it is located. I had one removed from my near my big toe, right where the food bends near where the toes are attached to the foot. I could walk right away, with a special shoe. Only problem for me is that I started playing volleyball too soon because it didn't hurt at all. So, it is important to take it easy for the entire time the Dr. instructs you to.

Good luck. Be sure you eat lots and fruits and veggies to help things heal faster. D.

I had one removed from my wrist when I was 17. I went back to school after a couple of days but wore a sling for a couple of weeks and had to limit the movement of my hand during that time. That was a couple of decades ago...surgery may be a little different. Pain wasn't too bad from what I remember, the hardest part was sleeping and not moving to much.

I am sure your husband will be fine within 48 hrs after and he really shouldn't use the hand for 6 weeks after the ganglion cyst is a octopus looking cyst that not only attacks but wraps around the nerves in your hand or where ever its located.he may need physical therapy to strengthen the hand an wrist or where ever it is.

I have had a ganglion cyst removed from each of my hands (on the top of the hand, right above the wrist). The surgeries were several years apart and I was serving in the Army at the time. I went back to work after 48 hours (able to write, type, light office duty), was able to start running after about 2 weeks, then went back to full physical excercizes (pushups, sit ups etc.) in about 3-4 weeks. There wasn't much pain after the surgery but painkillers are definitely nice for the day or two post-op.

I think he will be just fine for the birthday. As for work... everybody is different and it depends on the location of the cyst. If the cyst is in his hand and he's an electrician I think he should gently but regularly work on flexing and stretching his hand (once things start to heal up).
