I have been having gallstone attacks for the last 6 months. I have done a few cleanses, altered my diet, etc. But last night I was up from 10-2 am in pain. Will you please tell me if you have experienced gallstones? Did you have surgery? I'd be willing to try any other alternative first.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi ladies,
Thank you so much for your feedback and advice. I went to the doc today and am scheduled for surgery on Friday. I am nervous but also know that it needs to be done. Thank you again!

Z.- Have the surgery. You will only get worse! I had mine taken out 5 years ago (two weeks after my c-section) There is really no down time with the scope. I went home a few hours later with two bandaids on!

The only way to stop the pain with out surgery is a complete no fat diet. It is the fat that triggers the pain-life without popcorn and steak-no thank you!

I know surgery is scary but if they can use the scope it is truly the best choice.

Good Luck! H.

Z.,
Had them. Very horrible almost as bad as the c-section. Tried everything including the bland diet. The surgery was a piece of cake. There was more to the pre-op then the actual operation. Healing time was about 3 weeks completely for me. I had never been under before and was kinda terrified. But it was so easy. And now I feel wonderful. Wish you luck. J. =0)

There is no "cure" for gallstones other than having your gallbladder removed. The diet is only a way to help with symptoms temporarily. If you let this go on there are risks of other types of problems like pancreatitis caused by the stones blocking the bile ducts, abcesses in the gallbladder etc. Believe me you would much rather take care of this now than spend up to a month in the hospital in terrible pain from pancreatitis. Every surgery has risks but the current surgery done with a scope is a very easy day-surgery procedure with only a week of recovery time. If you let it go until there are problems it is less likely you would be able to have this type of surgery and would require a open surgery with 6 weeks recovery time.

You will be so glad after you have the surgery. I had attacks for about 4 years before I found out what they were (thought it was heart burn). Once I finally figured it out and got the stupid thing removed it has been so nice. I don't even get heart burn anymore and it has been over 2 years since my surgery! Hope you have a speedy recovery!
