Get that baby to the doctor and have his ears checked. I had a friend who's baby did that and he had terrible ear infections. The act of swallowing would make them hurt. And if I remember correctly, the position for feeding made it worse, too.

Good Luck

Make sure the bottle is not clogged, or try to give him the formula with a little of rice cereal, the milk may not be filling he or she up, try that just a little cereal.

She can try a hypoallergenic formula like similac alimentum. Or she can ask her doctor about reflux or both.

I have 16 month old twins and I also experienced different formula needs. I used Enfamil for both, but the regular yellow Lipil tin for the baby with no digestive problems and for my 'fussy' son with the gassy stomach the purple Gentlease. As the other Mom said, it's important if they are preemies to remember their 'adjusted age' especially early on like this, AND this is definitely an issue I would be calling your pediatrician to discuss. They may have a quick, simple answer we haven't thought of yet.
By the time mine were 1 year they were right on track. Good luck!

Hi C.,

He could be gassy. When my son was a young infant he would cry during his feedings when he had a lot of gas. Does the baby arch his back at all during the feeding when he's fussy? Mylicon drops will help ease the gas.

And it could be possible that the nipple size your sister is using is too small for him now and he's not getting the formula quick enough, therefore becoming fussy. Have her try testing the next size nipple and see if that helps.

Both my babies had acid reflux. I would mention that she should discuss with the doctor the possibility of that. Many people believe their kids have colic or its the diet. However, we changed diets, etc., and then found out that baby zantac was the miracle cure for both my girls. They were on it until they were 6 months old. However, we did try taking them off of it at 4 months but found that they were not ready yet. Good luck!

How long has this been going on, recent? Is it a painful cry? I don't think it's being a fussy eater, it's probably the stomach developing, which happens around 3 or 4 months. Lots of burping!! Good luck!

just because they are twins doesnt mean they will handle formula the same way. my daughter would only tolerate good start formula. if your sister in law doesnt want to switch formula then i would suggest lots of burping and leg pumpimg. good luck i hope this helps her!

I have twins and I had a problem with both of them crying while they were eating. My twins are 6 months now, but they were premature so their adjusted age is 3 months. The cried for different reasons. Sometimes it was very bad gas. Since they were preemies their digestive systems are not as developed as a full term baby. While they were in the hospital for 3 months I pumped and brought milk to them. When they got home I didn't have enough time to pump, feed them and do everything else that comes with a new baby especially preemie twins. They could not breastfeed because I had to add fortifier, supplements and medications to the breast milk. So they eventually went on a formula. One baby was spitting up at every feeding so my doctor placed him on reflux medication. I also had to do a stool test at home and they tested positive for blood. So he changed the formula to Similac Sensitive. They seem to like that better. Your sister should just talk to the doctor about what is happening. Good Luck.
