Hello, I am a Mom of 6 and I nursed all 6 babies so i have some experience.. My 6th baby screamed at night quite often, and I discovered that he has terrible gas that I could only relieve by laying him on his back and holding his legs way up until he passed gas. I would gently go up with his legs and then after he passed gas I would try again and again and he had an amazing amount of gas in his tummy! if this doesn't work, maybe your baby is ready for a little rice cereal in the evening. I'm not sure what the latest advice is from Dr.s as far as introducing rice cereal, but I started most of my babies at around 4 or 5 weeks and they are all very healthy kids now. Also, yes caffeine does affect babies very adversely in the breast milk. I am a big coffee lover and I found that when I was nursing it would keep my babies up and cranky so I limited the coffee. Good Luck!

try cutting out the soda- chemicals & caffeine is in there- if you need the caffeine try a coffee ;)

it takes about 3-5hrs for what you eat to make it to your milk, so try not drinking caffeine 3-5hrs before 'fussy' time

Hey A., the diet soda will def get into her system. Anything you drink/eat she gets. She may be getting gassy from some of the foods you eat/drink as well. My daughter acted the same way, usually around 6-7pm she would start crying. I tried these disolveable gas tablets, you can get them at walgreens. I would hold them on her tongue until they melted, and it seemed to help. Keep up with a nightime ritual also and in no time she will learn that its bedtime. Good luck! You are not alone........

Some babies just have a fussy time of the day with no explaination. Try keeping her on a strict eat-play-sleep schedule and after a few days she may start catching on. That's what I did--I woke my daughter up to feed her at the exact same times every day and put her down for a nap at the exact same times and by 7 weeks she was sleeping through the night. Best of luck!

Is she getting enough breast milk? The diet coke DEFINITELY goes into your breast milk. Every thing you eat or drink or any medication you take goes right to your breast milk. I don't drink caffiene, but once in a while I would eat a little chocolate. I could tell that it made my daughter a little more fussy. Their digestive systems can't digest caffiene the same way ours can. It could also be colic, expecially if it's happening at the same time every night. At your next doctor visit, you should ask.

Read "Happiest Baby on the Block." My son was the same way and that was the only thing that helped me.
