HI everyone! I was wondering if anyone has had experience with having the ducts cleaned and if you could recommend a company. I a living in a house that's over 23 yrs old and yes I can see the dust in the vents. I've learned that this can be a fire hazard but at this point I want it cleaned for health reason also. I know the previous owner never had it done just like they never had the septic tanks emptied for over 10 yrs...it was full, filled the truck. I have vacuumed as far as I can without the plates however I need a professional company to do the correct cleaning because there is more then an inch in view and out of view and reach in the vents. Who's had theirs cleaned and would you recommend the company you used other then that I'm good??
So if you could kindly tell you who you trusted and had a good experience with I would be so ever happy. In advance thank you for your help.

What can I do next?

I would love it if you could pass on the information when you get it. I too have a duct problem and my sinuses are feeling i, so are my eyes.
Also, could you tell us who you used for your septic. Do you know how many years should go by before we need to have it emptied?
thanks for the input

Courtney's advice is good. A professional job of cleaning ducts will make a tremendous difference in air quality. I had chronic sinus infections for years until I did the following: cleaned the air ducts, started changing the filters regularly, puchased a good air cleaner for the bedroom ( I travel with it), kept the house cold in the winter avoiding dry heat and using a neti pot each night before bed. No more sinus problems. You can do duct cleaning yourself after the initial cleaning by taking the vent plates off, washing them, vacuuming out inside the duct as far as you can go, then replacing the plates.

Check Kudzu.com. I've found great service providers on that site. And by the way, ducts should be cleaned every 3-4 years!

Here are two links to get you started. The first is for Kudzu.com, which will have many duct cleaning services listed, as well as reviews from customers who have used them. The second is for the national association for duct cleaning, which sets the standards for the entire industry. Whatever you do, steer clear of any of those "$79 whole house duct cleaning" as it is a total rip off. You can expect to pay anywhere from $300-$500 for a professional job, depending on how many ducts you have. Good luck!
