I was thinking about my daughter when she was just two weeks old (she is now 4). She was extremely mobile at such an early age. I used to swaddle her and put her in her basinette at night. I remember waking up one morning and she was not there!!!! I thought "where is my baby?" She had gotten out of her swaddle, wiggled down to the bottom of the basinette, and was kicking up a storm! The blanket was covering her. I remember taking the blanket off, and there she was, eyes wide open, moving arms and legs, and smiling! I freaked out because she could have suffocated, but thank God she was fine. What a little rascal! Awww she looked so funny! Do any of you have a funny newborn anecdote?

What can I do next?

I was breastfeeding my newborn, and was SO exhausted. I know I should not have allowed myself to sleep with him in the bed but I could not help it, I was so tired and the bed was so inviting. Anyway, after a delirious night of waking and breastfeeding, I awoke in a daze and freaked out because I did not immediately see my kid. After a second or two I realized that my newborn was warmly nuzzled , culrled up in between my armpit and my breast. He was so little, and exactly my skin color, I actually did not even see him! He was like this tiny little ball of baby, he was so cute.

After my fourth I was so tired. When he was about a week old I had put my baby on the big bed and was changing the crib sheets and heard a muffled cry. I realized I had tossed the crib sheets right on top of him. I felt sooooo bad!

I remember that when my daughter was 2-days old and we were still in the hospital, all of a sudden my daughter's body straightened up and went rigid and shaky, and her face was all pinched up and white. I picked her up and ran out of my room to the nursing station, exclaiming to them that I thought my daughter was having a seizure. One of the nurses just chuckled and politely told me that my daughter was having her first fit; she was pissed off that I hadn't gotten all of the air out of her stomach.

The thing was that my son, who was just 14-months older than her was such an extremely easy going baby that I wasn't expecting that my second child would be more opinionated and voice them more animately. But this was my first glimpse at the personality that my daughter was born with. She is very strong and is able to assert herself very well when needed. And that's what I love about her.

My daughter HATED being naked for diaper changes from the day she was born. We used to say that it wasn't the messy diapers that made her cry, it was the knowledge that she was going to have to be undressed!

When she was a couple of weeks old, my mother in law and husband's grandmother came to help out. I remember waking up in the middle of the night to them 'loud whispering' "hurry up, she's going to wake K. up, get her in that blanket". I had to laugh, because I could hear them loud and clear, what I heard only faintly was my daughter's cry! It's the thought that counts, I suppose!

When my son was born, the nurse placed him on the warming tray and turned away. He was perfectly healthy, screaming mad. Then she quickly lunged back and put her hands on him. "He almost threw himself off the tray! Newborns aren't supposed to do that!" She was white-faced. And kept staring at the baby and then me. Like we were Rosemary and baby...

My daughter now almost 5 was about 3 weeks old and I decided in a moment of madness to make the bed with clean IRONED sheets (lol). Well we were in bed about 20 mins feeding when I went to switch sides and while she was on top of me she spit up the HUGEST spit up ever. Into my mouth and newly washed hair and of course all over the newly ironed and changed sheets. I have no idea why I thought ironing the sheets was a good idea but we still laugh about it.

My daughter rolled over (from front to back) when she was 2 wks old! She was very long and skinny baby. She did it 4 times during the course of three days, then she never rolled over again until normal age (4mos?). My husband believed me, but I don't think anyone else ever did! When I told her doctor, she just kinda ignored the comment!

You know how experts say you should always talk to your baby? Always tell them what you are doing? Well, let's just say that diaper changing of a new baby boy is best done with one's mouth closed!

My now 9 year old was a screamer, and only her pacifier would calm her down. At about 3 months I went on a very much needed Girls Night Out. When I came home my husband and daughter (with pacifier) were sitting on the couch, just hanging out. I noticed 2 marks on my daughter's face, a long line on each cheek. I asked what happened and after awhile my husband confessed that he had made his own little contraption with rubber bands to keep the pacifier in my daughter's mouth! He knew I wouldn't like it, so when he heard the car in the driveway he took off. I "freaked" enough that he never did it again (at least I don't think so!) and we still laugh about that today :)
