Hello I brought my 20 month old to the pediatrician because she had bumps on/or in her but area. I kept on thinking it was a diaper rash but they started getting worse. The pediatrician said that it was fungus. Well he wants me to apply it 3-4 times a day for the next 14 days. It will be exactly 1 week tomorrow and to me they seem like they are toning down but my mom is my full time sitter and she tells me it bleeds. When I change her diaper there is no residue of dried up blood or anything. Then my mom pursue's to say that the medicine doesn't work and she puts powder and corn starch on it. My pediatrician is very old fashion and has been in service since before I was born. I just want to know if anyone else has experience this because I need to know just so I can feel more secure that I am doing it correclty. The pediatrician told me that its not going to go away in 2 weeks but I should see if its better and to me it looks like it but my mom says other wise. I need advise ladies

What can I do next?

My daughter has also had this. It's difficult because this area tends to be covered and damp. However, one time it was a baterial infection. I would have thought that the anti-fungal medicine would have helped by now. You may also think about going to a dermotologist. They are the specialist with this. My daughter was put on bactoban and it quickly went away.
Good luck

Your Pediatrician is right in that, it won't go away quickly.
My daughter had this and the doctor gave us a steroid cream and it finally went away, but we had to be consistent with it and we could only apply a very little bit or it would burn her skin.
It's important that whom ever is caring for your little girl follow the instructions from the doctor. It's also important for parents to be empowered to get a second opinion from a professional if you are not sure about the doctor's advise.
My son had his elbow come out of place, apparently very common in young children because their bones are not fused together yet, anyway, the pediatrician said she put it back and yet he was still in pain and would not move his arm. We took him to the emergency room for a second opinion and the doctor did not put it back in place the right way. She also had us going home and just giving him motrin and seeing an orthopedic doctor as a follow up.
When all he needed was someone to put it back the right way and he was fine and functioning and out of pain!
So, sometimes doctor's are not perfect and don't exactly do the right thing. Follow your gut instinct.
Good luck.

I use over-the-counter Clotrimazole (sold in the same section as all the yeast infection medication). And yes, it is better to m9nimize irritation by avoiding baby wipes and using warm water to wash the area afdter diaper changes; or use very soft paper towels soaked in warm water or in olive oil.
Apply Clotrimazole generously; once my ped. suggested alternating it with hydrocortizone.

And yes, powders and starch are not effective and make everyting worse. Besides, I read it a long time ago, powders should not be used for another reason - they can get into the baby's lungs.

OK...My kids have had this kind of rash many times. DO NOT USE CORN STARCH OR POWDER ON A FUNGAL (yeast) RASH!!!! The fungus will actually eat off of the corn starch and GET WORSE!!!! If you google Fungal diaper rashes and corn starch you can get more info on that. But definitely just keep doing the anti-fungal cream and it will get better. Your mom is right that it probably does bleed. Make sure diapers are being changed right away...especially poop. From a nutritional perspective, cutting down on sugar will help (even in fruit) for a few days because yeast also feeds off sugar and I also add acidopholis to my kids' yogurt. Yogurt already has the live bacteria that's needed, but with a bad rash like that the extra acidopholis helps a lot.

Anyway...tell your mom NO CORNSTARCH OR POWDER!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Hope it clears up soon!

Hi S., Poor baby! How about just calling the doctor and finding what else he has for this type of fungus. Your poor Mama is fighting the battle w/this thing all day...if she says it's bleeding...I'll bet it is and the baby is uncomfortable. Sometimes it takes a little push-back to get your babies what they need. A doctor usually can prescribe a couple of different things so he's probably got another remedy in his back pocket. Good luck!

I just took my 9 month old daughter to the doctors for this becuase i thought it was another Yeast infection (she has had one before) and i was using the Lotrimin yeast cream, but the doctor told me that it was a staff infection. They gave me anitbiotics and prescription strength cream. I know the last time she had a yeast infection, it took forever to go away. Another thing to help would be to let her sit without a diaper for 30-60 minutes a day.

Good Luck!

It sounds to me like your mother is NOT doing what she's supposed to and doing what SHE wants to. If it IS a fungus, not treating it properly is only going to make it worse. A simple over the counter tube of antifungal cream like lotrimin will do the trick.

My daughter just got this, same thing. The Dr prescribed Vusion. It got better immediately but it hasn't gone away it has been about a week. I really trust my pediatrician he is not one to be quick with the prescription pad, he only prescribes when he absolutely needs to which I like as I don't like to medicate my baby. Anyway it seem that your baby will be ok, but no matter what trust your instinct as it will guide you correctly. Hope your baby gets better soon.

Hi,
My daughter had the same type of fungus when she was 10 months old. she never bled, it was just like a really really bad all over her bottom area diaper rash with bumps. the doctor gave us a cream which name escapes me now but we used the cream for 1 month and it finally went away. (i did take her to the doctor after 2 weeks of using the cream b/c i felt like she wasn't getting better). be patient...do what the doctor tells you, keep the baby dry at all times, change the diaper as soon as she pees and it will go away. the doctor told us that this fungus is common and that it takes a while to go away.

My now six year old daughter as a baby had fungus in between her legs. It was horrible and I felt that I was back and forth at the doctor's every week. He kept given me different types of fungus cream. It is hard because you must keep that area dry at all times and being in pamper it makes it quite difficult. My suggestion to you is try and keep the diaper dry at all times, use the fungus cream and in between use the corn starch to keep the area as dry as possible. To make you feel a little better the fungus in between my daughters legs took over a month to clear up.

My daughter had a very red and bumpy diaper rash a few months ago. It turned out to be a yeast infection. The doctor gave anti fungal medication and it took a little over a week to get better. We let her go "commando" as much as possible, used water to clean her bottom instead of the wipes and applied the medication at every diaper change. At night we were told to apply the medication with an additional layer of diaper cream (Desitin) to further protect her from prolonged exposure to her soiled diaper. We were told that baby powder/cornstarch was a definite no-no!!--it can further irritate the area.

Hope this helps.

Keep using the ANTI-FUNGAL cream - my daughter had the same thing a couple times - it does go away if u keep using that.

LOTRIMIN, etc....

I don't know about the corn starch - probably not gonna get better w/ just that alone.
