Good afternoon Ladies!
We are expecting a very cold spell this wkend and next week - highs only reaching the teens. In the spirit of looking on the positive side, I thought it would be fun for us to make/freeze some cool things outside in these cold temps. One thing I heard of years ago is to freeze water ballons to make balls! Once frozen you tear off the balloon part. Then you can also fill up 2-liter type bottles, once frozen you break the ice out of the plastic and you can make your own bowling ball and pins set out of ice! Sounds cool right?!?! And you can add dye/food coloring to the water before you freeze it to make it even cooler!
I saw a thing going around on FB about a guy who made tons of ice bricks by freezing water in the larger size milk cartons and then he made an igloo out of them! Not looking for THAT big of a project.......
Wondering if you ladies have any other cool "freezing" stuff ideas like this to share????
Thanks!

when the temps are below freezing you can blow bubbles with regular outdoor bubbles. and they will freeze and shatter as they hit the ground.....kind of a cool thing to see!!
My kids like making the ice blocks with food colouring. They use them in their snow forts. I have an ice candle mold from Lee Valley that makes a large star shaped candle holder. I make a whole bunch and they look very pretty on the front step with tea lights in them. There is a house a couple of blocks over that had these large ice blocks lining the driveway. They look very pretty. I have meant to ask him what he uses.
How cool! I am loving the ideas and never thought of doing such things. I am so going to have to try these too!!!
Hmmm...I might check out pinterest to see if they have any ideas too! Might be something you could do too. (Sorry I'm no help)
The bowling idea sounds fun. Good idea! I'll have to see what responses you got!
Hey if you could post a follow up later about what worked/didn't work. I'd be interested to hear.
I saw something yesterday where you freeze water in an ice cream bucket, with a balloon in the middle. When it is done freezing, pop the balloon, and it makes a really pretty candle holder.
Wow...I was just going to suggest making snow cones. You're one ambitious M.! I hope you're able to make an awesome bowling set and have fun with the kids!
(As an aside, several years ago it got really cold here and I tried to make snow for the kids...it didn't work at all! I had to come up with a back up plan and fast! So just remember to have a back up plan if something doesn't work out!)
I saw the frozen balloon idea on FB and loved it! Waiting for us to have some consistent freezing times and we are so all over that idea! Can't wait to make them in all kinds of cool colors!
