Hello fellow DC mommies!!!

I need your advice. My best friend and I are going to be visitng DC next week. Well actually she is already there, she is there for 3 weeks for banking school required for her job. She and I made plans for me to come visit her while she was in town, you know just a girls weekend! She is married with a 2 year old and I am a single mommy with an adorable 23 month old! Anyways we have both been to DC previously, but its been about 4 years! And we are wanting some local hotspots to check out while we are in town. I leave Dallas next Wed am and arrive around 4ish. We already know pretty much what we are going to be doing. We have a few tours scheduled through our congressman, like the pentagon, national archives tour, bureau of engraving and printing. So if you can recommend some great hotspots that are relatively inexpensive that would be awesome! And also we are going to go see Sex and the City and just found out that there are no Cinemark cinemas, (apparently they are only in Texas and other states) I had two passes to go to any Cinemark but unfortunately that is not going to happen! So if you can recommend any great theaters that are relatively nice please let me know!! We are staying in Arlington VA at the FDIC hotel. Not sure if any ofyou are familiar with it but its owned by the FDIC for government personnel. TIA!!!

What can I do next?

You may want to also go and enjoy the National Zoo! I also love going to the museums and my favorite is the Air and Space Museum as well as the Museum of Natural History. Don't forget the ever present Vietnam Memorial (you will never forget the feeling/impact it has on you for such a "simple" memorial) as well as the World War II Memorial and the Holicoust Museum (another unforgetable experience)!

There are some great places, night spots, in Clarendon which is very near Arlington where you are staying.

Enjoy your visit and let us know how it went when you return!

We just went out on the town for my husband's 30th and stumbled on a restaurant called "Proof." It was very high end (like $20 glasses of wine) but the atmosphere was great and a real treat. The four of us each had some wine and shared an appetizer--about $100. So, if you're looking to splurge a little this was a fun place! In the Chinatown area.

Window shopping in Georgetown is always fun. Or visit Old Town Alexandria for shopping and dinner. I really enjoy having dinner at Vermillion or splurge a bit and try Resturant Eve.

Have fun!

My friend recommended to me the National Building Museum. We took our than 20 month old there and she loved it. It seems to be the ad hoc children's museum of DC and thankfully the staff are used to it. There is a big central room to run around in and there are often things they can do there. Plus there is a great children's play room. They do monitor the number of kids in the play room so on a rainy day there could be a long wait. When our little one got tired, we put her in the stroller and were able to enjoy some of the adult exhibits. Overall an interesting place for everyone.
