We are looking for a good home for our Jack Russell Terrier. She is 4 years old and we love her dearly. The problem is our neighbors have dogs too. She wants to play with them so much that she is eating our fence to try to get to them. We just had a new fence put in and can not afford to have to redo it. She is a sweet dog and very good with the kids. We just do not know what else to do. She is fixed, housebroken, and so much fun. We will screen who ever takes her. Please let me know if you have any ideas as what to do to stop her from chewing or if you know of someone that may want a new dog.

What can I do next?

I don't have a dog, so take this suggestion in that light... Have you thought of putting up some kind of wire mesh around the bottom of your fence so she can't get at the wood? Also, I thought the idea of getting her a playmate was a good one. Of course, then you would have to care for 2 dogs so that may not be an option.

I hope you figure out how to keep your dog and your fence!

Maybe you could get her a friend, another sweet dog so she would not try so hard to get to the neighbors. Many dogs are so social they need company all the time so you could keep her in the house with you and your children.

We used Bitter Apple, either in cream or spray form, to keep our dogs from eating wooden fencing in our backyard and it worked. You can get it at any Petco or Petsmart. We just slathered it on the wood and they finally got tired of the taste of it. Took a couple of weeks.

Our dog likes to dig under the fence to say hi to neighbor dogs but what we do is go to Lowes and buy garden fencing. The metal fencing that you just stick in the ground. she can't chew threw it and its not worth her time so she finds something else (usually somewhere to dig in the middle of the yard!). You can get the tall ones or just the foot tall, it doesn't really matter whatever works in your budget. Just do sections at a time. just simply stick them in the ground as far as they go either right up against the fence or a few inches from it, whatever you feel. We do it right up against the fence, then theres no room to try to paw at it. Sure is worth a shot...better then just giving away your dog. right? the zap collar would work too.

We have a dog who is an escape artist my hubby got her an e collar. He stapled up the wire onto our existing fence. Joined the 2 ends together and put the e-collar(shock) collar on her. You can set the range and intensity. She learnt within minutes how close she could get to the fence without getting the buzz... it makes a noise then vibrates and if she moves closer it makes a louder noise and gives her a tiny shock to if she wanted to dig @ the fence it would shock her pretty hard. She never goes near the fence.

A thought maybe
