I am beyond frustrated with how I have been feeling. I had a baby last June and breastfed for 8 months with my period persisting the entire time starting when my little one was just 5 weeks old. When I weened my baby, my cycles started getting longer for the next 2 months so I gave up and got back on the pill to help ease my mind. I took Loestrin for 3 months and I had consistent breakthrough bleeding, headaches, fatigue, and increased appetite. The last month I was on it, I was also on antibiotics for 2 weeks. This month I started on Ortho Cyclen and since the 2nd week I have been having nausea, dizziness, fatigue, sensitivity to smells, broken out skin, and increased appetite. I took hpt this am and negative. I start placebo pills in 3 days.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Anyone had similar side effects from BCP or get pregnant on pill? Any suggestions for what pill to take?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to OBGYN today for yearly. After offering several either an IUD or implanon he suggested that I get off of hormones completely for a few months to see if my cycle regulated and then get back with him. He also apologized for me feeling crappy. They did another urine pregnancy test which was negative. This is why I love my OBGYN.

I had many problems with the pill. I would bleed for 3 weeks and then be off for 1 week. I tried 6-7 different kinds with gaining about 10 pounds with each new one. After becoming pregnant with my 2nd child while on the pill (and I was not taking antibiotics) I gave up on pills all together, I got the Mirena IUD after my 2nd was born and I LOVE IT! After about 4-6 weeks I stopped bleeding completely. There are no side affects, no pills to remember, no prescription co-pays, and NO unplanned pregnancies. They have to be removed every 5 years and replaced so I am on my second one since my little one is almost eight. BEST THING I EVER DID. And if I ever decided to have another child then you just have it removed and you can start trying right away.....Hope this helps!

Get an IUD. I can't believe I didn't do it sooner! Zero hormones, zero side effects and if you want to try to get pregnant again just have it removed :)

I have the paragard iud for that reason. Birth control makes me feel like I am pregnant. That's the whole reason you take the pills so you wont GET pregnant! Maybe you need a different kind? Just check with your doc.

It could be that the Ortho C is too strong of a hormone for you. I had problems with it.

These are symptoms from the pill. I am very sensitive to hormones and I had to try many kinds before I found the right one. Also, try to stay away from generics. They contain different fillers that can throw things off for those of us that are sensitive. I would advise against the paraguard. I found out too late that it is not advised for women who have a history of break through bleeding (I bled non stop for several months and had cramps). Keep trying different kinds- there a lot out there now

Did you use another form of bc when you were on antibiotics? If not, try another hpt in a few days if you still haven't gotten your period. If it turns out negative again, call your OBGYN- it may just be side effects from the new pill. One of the bc pills I was on made me break out terribly (even though it wasn't "supposed to"). I'm on Lutera 28's because of heavy bleeding, and I've had pretty good luck with it.
Good luck =o)

Try this website:
http://www.womentowomen.com/aboutus.aspx
They are a team of women doctors who use natural treatments for hormone imbalances and other female problems. I would advise against the IUD as I have heard it causes spontaneous abortions without the mother's awareness. (I'm not a doctor so I don't know for sure.)
Hope all goes well.

Those are side effects of the bcp. because it tricks your body into thinking your pregnant , with all those extra hormones.
It's actually a myth that an antibiotic reduces the effectiveness of a birth control pill. There's been only one antibiotic that has shown to do that and unless you had tuberculosis you should be ok.
Talk to your dr, you may need a lower hormone or no hormone form of birth control.

I would talk to my OB/GYN or PCP about the side affects I have been having...I'm sorry you bleed so much after your son was born!! I would've talked to my doctor after it happening for more than 2 weeks.

I didn't have a period for 11 months - if not longer when my son was born..I breast fed him until he was 28 months old and I was pregnant with his brother...

I've not been on the pill since 1996...but never had the problems you have been having....I'm sorry - I'm not much help...on Monday - call your PCP or who ever put you on the pill and let them know what's going on...

Best of luck!!
