Fruit Flies

I just had this question and a friend of mine told me to put some apple vinegar in a mason jar and poke holes in the lid. The fruit flies fly in but can't get out - this has solved my problem. I did not have a mason jar so you can use an empty spice jar with one of those plastic lids with holes.

I have tried the vinegar and personally didn't have luck. I decided to try a little fruit juice and a little smashed banana in a bowl covered with a some saran wrap w/holes. I woke in the morning and there were about 20 in there!! Good luck.

I put a little bit of dishsoap in a small juice glass with some water and then put about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in there. This works great! Good luck!

Pour a glass of red wine (white might work too, but I have never tried) and leave it on the counter over night. You will find them in it in the morning.

My husband just told me an idea about this very subject yesterday, but I have yet to try it.

He said to get a baby food jar (or something similar, with a lid) and poke small holes in the lid. Put vinegar in the jar and replace the lid and leave on your counter. They can climb in the the holes but they can't climb out. you can even add a little dishsoap as one woman suggested earlier, bc that makes their wings slippery to further prevent them from getting out of the jar.

We were having the same problem until a neighbor suggested that we rinse our bananas as soon as we got home from the store. She thought the fruit flies were coming from eggs we brought home on the fruit. I guess she was right because we haven't had the issue since! A rinse and a quick dry was all it took for us. Good luck!
