Poultry shouldn't be kept long at all and can go up to 1-2 days. I have a chart from a grocery store that says different times for different meats. It came from Price Chopper and if you have one near you maybe you could ask for a guide of some kind. To be safe though 1-2 days. Meats like hot dogs 1 week, lunch meat 3-5 days it says. Bacon 7 days, 3-5 days for pork chops and roasts. I always am more careful than not.
EDIT: My food chart that says 'price chopper' on it is the exact same one that Marda P put the link to from the FDA. It's very handy to keep on hand.
