Hi, my kids love frozen grapes in the summer. When I pack them for school lunch they are beginning to thaw at lunch time, but still firm and cool!
My son doesn't like room temperature grapes. He prefers them refrigerated. I don't want to send an ice pack in his lunch box, because I doubt I will get it back. He has already left his lunch box at school twice in a week and a half. If you have frozen grapes, how long do they take to thaw once out of the freezer? Do they stay cool long? They'd get taken out of the freezer around 8 AM, put in an insulated lunch box, and eaten around noon.

Why not freeze some, get them out at 8am and then try them at 11 or noon to see firsthand?
My fave snack are frozen grapes, so we freeze them regularly. On a warm day, they thaw within about 45 min to an hour. Once they thaw, they have the same texture and taste the same as regular ol' grapes, it will not turn them mushy or weird like other fruits once they thaw. I bet if you pack them frozen in his lunch bag, they will be thawed by lunch time. Why not give it a try tomorrow, and ask him how it goes. Let him know it is ok to eat them if they are still frozen, and that many people like them even better that way :)
We love frozen grapes... but.... once they thaw, I don't know what the texture would be like......
I would suggest putting some in his lunch box (on the weekend), and seeing what they are like when it would be the normal time for lunch....
I don't know, but frozen grapes are DELICIOUS!! You should try them, they are really fantastic. Even if they aren't thawed all the way, I bet he would lve them! The suggestion of trying on the weekend, is a great one.
My daughter used to bring frozen grapes to soccer games when the heat was unbearable. In a cooler on a soccer field they will thaw by the end of a one hour game if the cooler is being opened throughout the game. If not they are still frozen at the end of a game.
Taking it to the lunch room, they should be thawed enough to eat by lunch. :)
Oh, grapes aren't like other fruits in this regard, they are just fine once they have thawed.
i'd do it. frozen grapes are an awesome treat, and they're still good even if they've thawed a bit. obviously they'd be kinda soggy and weird after too many hours, but if you put a freezie pack in with his lunch i'll bet they're still yummy at noon. the dh and i took frozen grapes to the beach this summer and nibbled on them out of the cooler all day.

I LOVE frozen grapes, but don't like them at all when they thaw.
My step daughter eats them frozen so we never let them thaw. lol You can always try it on the weekend to see if you don't get any responses. Good luck!
I wouldn't freeze them, just refrigerate them and put the ziplock bag in his lunchbox with a cool pak wrapped around it (they make flexible ones). That is what I have ALWAYS done for my daughter.
And for what it's worth, I can't stand a room temperature grape either. It's gotta be chilled!
I would be afraid that after thawing, it would be mushy, like other fruits are (get ruined by freezing and defrosting). If there is anything worse than a room temperature (or warm) grape, it is a mushy one. UGh.
They would not last frozen from 8AM to 12PM. Try sending them and see if your son's ok with it.
I don't know. But, you could try testing it on the weekend when you have his lunch box. Freeze them over night, take them out in the morning and put them in the lunch box, and check them at his scheduled lunch time :)
Frozen grapes are awesome, but I'm paranoid about my kid choking on stuff so I still cut hers in half. She'll be six in a few days. Frozen grapes are probably not any worse a choking hazard than regular grapes, but because of their rigidity, they feel like one.
I've put frozen grapes in my kids lunch, they don't stay frozen even when an ice pack and they turn into a wet mess.
