Ok ladies.... Please help! My son is almost 22 months old. He has slept from 8pm to at least 8 am for a LONG LONG time now. However, within the last 2 week or so..he began SCREAMING a high pitched scream over and over until you go get him in the middle of the night. Some nights its once or twice...up to 3 or 4 times max. We have had a night here or there where he did not wake up. Then he is waking up for the day at 6:30am! It isn't that I don't want him up early but he is STILL tired. He will stop and lay on the floor with his blankets, lay on the couch, very grumpy and whiny...I KNOW he needs more sleep. Any one else go through this at this age?! I can't figure out what it could be. I do not believe it is night terrors because he is awake and with it when I go in during the middle of the night. Nightmares, maybe? Separation? I dunno....but I know he needs more sleep to be my happy boy again! Oh- I have tired letting him cry it out...and I'm not really a cio mom. Please help!

What can I do next?

Have you taken him to the doc? Could be an ear infection.
Otherwise, I'm guessing nightmares that will go away on their own.
Good Luck:)

Does he snore or breathe through his mouth when he sleeps? If so, he could have large adenoids or tonsils.

My son has always been a good sleeper, too. However, he will occasionally go through spells where he gets up several times a night. Usually within a few days he is back to his normal pattern. It seems to be a pretty normal thing. As a guess, I believe some of the spells have been during a growth spurt, so I assumed this was because of growing pains. However, there was one time where we had taken him to the doctor for something (I don't remember what) and when the doctor asked how he was sleeping we mentioned that he was getting up several times a night. It turned out that he had an ear infection, which is what was making it difficult to sleep.

A couple of things to look at.

Is he getting out everyday for good fresh air and playing for a few hours each day,and allowed to play with other children of similar age during this time weather providing?

Before bedtime, was he in the same house/room with a loud tv or loud music, lights on in the whole house. You need to calm the house/home a good hour or more before he gets ready for bedtime.

Get a routine, bath time, a story or two, then off to bed, a favorite animal to sleep with...

Lights dimly lit in his room. And the rest of the house/home.

No loud tv or music while he is in bed. No you or others talking loud, laughing talking on the phone, quiet time for everyone. Kepp all lights out as much as possible.

No company to come over, family either.

No disturbing shows, scary movies, violence, or anything that obver stimulates him even comedies can be too much. No rough play from adults, grandparents during the day or just before bed.
No letting him see you upset or worrying all the time either, especially if you are a single mom, this might scare him if he feels you are so worried about things too.
