I used the formula given on here for killing fruit flies.
The 1/3 cider vinegar with 1 drop of dish soap. This did not work.
Does any one have other solutions or am I doing something wrong?

What can I do next?

I had the same issue with fruit flies and also tried the cider vinegar. I also put a glass of red wine right next to it and after a few days I had the same amount of fruit fly bodies in both. After that I put all of the fruit in the fridge and started cutting off the very top of the bananas(one of the other "Mamas" wrote that the banana tops are where they all come from). It has gotten remarkably better but I am not convinced that anything gets rid of them completely. Good luck!

Do you have a garbage disposal? If so.....

You know that rubber black thingy that is in the drain of a disposal? Clean the BACK of that. You have to get your hands, with gloves, I suggest, and clean the under carriage of THAT thing...if you have knats, or fruit flies, this can be a common problem. If that thing is dirty, you should see all sorts of black sludge underneath.
Clean that, pour some bleach, then wash down with some boiling water.

This is what I do, take a throw away glad ware container, put a little wine it (regular sweet red or white) and add a banana or other piece of fruit and then put plastic wrap over it and poke holes with a sharp knife. Leave it on the counter for a few day, the flies get in there and can't get out, also pour some bleach down your garbage disposal.

Some sort of bait in a little dish (like a couple slices of apple), a fruity alcohol (like a sweet red wine) and cover with plastic wrap. Poke tiny holes in the plastic wrap so they can get in but have a rough time getting out, especially when they're drunk. We had a bad infestation, and this took care of most of it for us. You'll occassionally get a couple, but this helps when it gets out of hand.

I use a bottle of red wine with about a cup of wine left in the bottom of it. The flies fly in and drown. Works like a charm! Good luck.

This is what I did and it worked: I put cider vinegar in a coffee mug and hung just above it a sticky hanging fly trap. I bought it at Walmart with the insecticides that are in the laundry detergent area. It looks like a sticky papertowel roller with little plastic cups at each end and has a plastic hook for hanging. The idea is that the cider vinegar will attract the fly and if the sticky trap is hung right over it close enough, they will get stuck while trying to get at the cider vinegar. I did not have any luck with just the cider vinegar. Yes, it attracted them, buy they did not drown in it as promised. Anyway with the combination of the cider vinegar and sticky trap I was able to get rid of them in a matter of days.

This is a simular item but larger and without the hook. I don't think mine had any smells added like this one does:

We had fruit flies really bad. What worked for us is we found a fruit fly trap. It was at a chain hardware store. It looks like a piece of fruit and you put poison in it that attracts the flys. Once in they cant get out.
It worked like a charm. It took about a week and we were free of fruit flies.

Don't quote me on this, but I think we used to use the rind of an orange hung up. If it draws the flies, then I was wrong...I can't remember if it is the reverse action, but do let me know...

You mentioned you used 1/3 cider. What was the other 2/3rds? You should have used nothing but apple cider vinager and 1 drop of soap in a container. It has to be at least 1/2 inch deep

Did you not have any dead flies in the container? If so, then it did work, but more were probably hatching as the others were dying.

I placed my container right under the bananas and changed spilled out the container every 3rd day and replaced it with fresh apple cider vinager and 1 drop of dish soap.

You need a container (preferably clear), apple cider vinegar and/or an apple core. Put vinegar and apple core in container. Cover securely with plastic wrap. Poke a few small wholes in plastic so the fruit flies can go in but not find their way out. I suggest you put jar in your kitchen or dining room table. They are attracted to the vinegar, but even more to rotting fruit. You'll be amazed how fasr they will come.

Find the source. The only way to get rid of them is to find the source and use bleach there. Pour bleach down your drains for example - they like moist damp sweet places.

It will take a couple of days - but then you will be fruit fly free.
