Frequent Potty

My three year old son started having issues with frequent urination on Friday. The daycare teacher said he was going potty every 10 minutes. So Friday night my DH and I kept watching him and sure enough he would continue to go potty every 5 min to 20 minutes...only a trickle would come out. He got up a few times in the middle of the night to go potty and Saturday morning the routine started all over again with the frequency. I took DS to the pediatrician and the initial exam showed nothing. A urine test was taken and looks normal and he was tested for possible diabetes that was normal. He is circumcised and according to doc very rare for little boys to get UTI. I am waiting for the urine culture to come back today. Last night same thing and then in the wee hours this morning he had an accident in his bed...This is very unusual for him and his routine..Aside from the frequency of needing to urinate he is his usual self...Happy with energy and a good appetite.

Now we did take the pacifier away from him cold turkey starting last Weds I believe. Don't know if that could be playing a role or not. I could see how it would at night but during the day??? His daily routine has not changed and he has been potty trained day and night since October. I don't know what to do for him. I feel so bad.

What can I do next?

I would suspect it's a UTI. I would start giving him cranberry juice, while waiting for the doctor's results. Can't hurt. Good luck!

Sounds like a UTI, but there are other infections that can cause frequent urination and wetting accidents as well, like strep. Reason being is that the body does not always respond with an appropriate response (like sore throat, etc) and autoimmune system gets wonky and causes brain-stem swelling and some neuro/physical symptoms will start to show. I use strep as an example because this is what happens to my daughter. I kept taking her in for UTIs and they were clear, but it was strep all along.

If it keeps happening, ask for a strep swab (a rapid + a 72 hour culture is the golden standard.)

Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me if you have questions. I tried to keep it brief for everyone's sake ;)
