Freezing Butter?

My son loves buttered toast and we don't use butter around the house that much. Usually the butter I buy comes in 4 blocks package. Is it okay to freeze the unused blocks and take them out later to use? Not sure if I can freeze butter and how it would be when it thaws out in the regular frig section.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

I freeze butter all the time. I buy it in bulk from Costco and put it all in the freezer until I need it. Comes out perfect every time.

Cut the quarters into eights (half of each quarter).
Wrap each in saran/plastic wrap
and make sure there's no air in the package.
Put the individually wrapped chunks into a freezer bag.
Then you can take out one at a time to thaw.
Oh! I see you're in Pasadena.
TRADER JOE's has the most amazing butter.
It's called Kerry Gold, in a gold foil package, comes from Ireland.
I've seen the same product at Ralph's
for TWICE AS MUCH as Trader Joe charges.
OTOH, if your son is happy with "ordinary" butter,
maybe leave well enough alone.

Yep, I do it all the time. I just put a stick in the fridge and it thaws. No problem

I do it all the time. I thaw it in the fridge as needed and it is always the same. I hope this is okay, as I have done it for years and years!

It is fine. I buy when it is on sale and freeze, you can do the same with cheese and milk too, but you have to pour off a little to keep the container from bursting.

I freeze butter ... its perfectly fine after it is thawed in the fridge overnight ... there is no difference in texture or taste or nutrition content.

I buy butter at Sams in bulk and keep it frozen for months and months. Just take it out and use what you need then wrap that stick up in a plastic baggie and you can put it back in and keep it frozen too, just be sure and use it before opening another one. I am always popping one out, chopping of a chuck and then putting it right back in to keep it frozen. I love real butter but my husband is lactose intolerant and butter gives his the runs...so I just keep it frozen for my own use. I often pop the chunk into the microwave for about 15-25 seconds, depending on my desired consistency. Pancakes or waffles can be runnier where for toast I only want it soft, not melted.

Keeping the opened stick in its original paper and keeping it in a baggie keeps ice crystals from forming, the more air tight the baggie the better the quality of the butter when you go to use it the next time.

My mom has always kept butter in the freezer and so do I (we're Costco members so when I buy butter I get a lot!). It doesn't seem to have any affect on the taste or texture or anything.

I do it. Comes out fine. We don't use enough butter at our house to go through a pound quickly, but I like to have the real thing handy for making bread. I put the sticks in the freezer, and take one out when I need it.

Oh, and yes, that "Kerry Gold" butter is very worthwhile. I've purchased it when it's on sale and... ahhh!

Absolutely! Butter will also stay in the fridge for a long time and not go bad, but freezing is better for the extras. I also get my butter from Costco and freeze it until I use it!

Definitely--we throw it in the freezer and then put one in the fridge whenever we run out. It does not thaw oddly or taste any different.

My mom does it all the time, she just puts it out on the counter in the butter dish when she is ready to thaw it. It always tastes great!
