I have gotten a lot of stuff from this site as well as given away a lot of stuff too. I have had no problems and love the site. A lot of people do porch pick up and others are home. I just always make sure to arrage a pick up time when the hubby is home just to be safer.

I LOVE FREECYCLE!

DON'T PUT YOUR ADDRESS IN THE POST, (most moderators won't let you anyways)-WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE CONTACTS YOU SAYING THEY WANT IT and then give it to them.

We mostly handle pick-ups by telling them it is on the front porch or in a box in the driveway or something like that so we don't have to meet them or be home unless it is a speical/bigger item or something of that sort!

I love freecycle!
When someone responds to your ad, they come to you. You can either have them come to your house or have them meet you somewhere, if you would be more comfortable that way. You will not be posting your street address to the entire group, just to the single person who gets the item.

Hello Gracyy,
I have been a FreeCycle member for about two years now. I've always just let it be a porch pick-up. I give the one person that I choose, my address and my phone number. They call me when they are on their way to my home and I set the items on my front porch. I've never had any problems; someone is always at my house and I'm also usually home, so no problems. I've given away great items and people are so appreciative and kind. I say, Play it Forward, share the "blessings." I've been given some real junk that I put into a donation box and decided they could do what they wanted with the items. I have also received many items in good condition. When I request things that some people are going to just throw away, like BoxTops4Education or Campbell's Labels for Education; it is strange that I don't get even one reply. Some people will ask for a "laundry" list of things and even expensive things like laptop computers and cars; and occassionally they get them from someone on Freecycle.

Recently a woman on FreeCycle was giving away groceries because she found out she was allergic to many of the items, she picked me to give the groceries to, I expected one grocery bag, when I arrived the lady gave me 12 grocery bags of food! A man's bicycle, and some clothes. I took the groceries to my daughter's family that really needed them, my husband knew someone that needed the bicycle, and I put the clothing in a donation box. The lady even helped me to load everything into my van!

Do be careful; I'm probably TOO trusting! God has just protected me and blessed me with both my giving and my receiving from FreeCycle.

[I think it would be great if a group of Mom's that live in the same city or near one another would get together and have a clothing swap or sell their kid's clothing, shoes, etc., for
50 cents to $4.00. It doesn't seem like Kid to Kid or Once Upon a Child gives a parent much money for the clothes and other infant/child things that they take to those stores to sell. Excuse the rant!]

I have done freecycle for several years & do porch pick up only. Once someone responds to you you give them your address & just put the stuff on the front porch.

It's better than throwing it into the trash!

You only post your zip code or city name, no address. If the item is small enough, you can meet somewhere public. When I have given things away through them, I have done it two ways. I used porch pick up where they came and got the item off my driveway when I wasn't home and once the lady came to my office. Freecycle is a great group!
