We go to Storytime at the local library. We haven't found a local playground yet. At 21 months, he has a good time at ChuckECheese without having to spend much. What other ideas do y'all have? Does YMCA do free activities during the week? I could not find anything on their website. We used to go see the animals at the local shelter, but we've now moved, and there's not a shelter nearby. Any other ideas for free places to go and free things to do - I'll take them! I live north of Sn Antonio, Tx, but I know that some ideas y'all have will be great no matter where we live. Thanks in advance!

One of the free things I like to do with my 2 year is go to the pet store. We have a petsmart by us and she can spend forever watching all the fish. They other day they had a hermit crab and we watched that crab for 20 mins. I like it because even in crappy weather we can still go.

I don't know anything about your area, but is there a public pond/lake near you? You could take pieces of bread to feed the fish, turtles, and ducks/geese. We live right down the street from a university that has a pond with LOTS of geese. My daughter loves to go feed them!

Keep looking for the local playground (check out newer subdivisions, apartment complexes, near schools, etc)! If you boy likes ChuckE Cheese, he'd probably love the park. Being in such a large city, you can probably google "activities for kids in San Antonio" and come up with all kinds of things. Do you have a zoo and/or aquarium (zoo for warm, sunny days; aquarium for cool or rainy days)? My girl also loves Petsmart/Petco and will watch the mice, rats, hamsters, and guinea pigs for a good 20-30 minutes. See what membership activities are in your area (Gymboree, kids gym, etc) and ask if they have a "first class free" policy! That could keep you entertained 1 day a week for several weeks (and you may even find a place with a reasonable price that you could join). Some arts & crafts stores have free or cheap activities (see Michaels website).

Have fun!

Call the city rec and parks department and ask them if they have a list of free activities. Also call the Chamber of Commerce and ask them for anything they have on Day activities. If there is a college nearby someitmes they will have activies on their campuses that are interesting eg; multi cultural day, bands playing in the quad...
