do any of the local area movie theaters offer FREE kids movies during the summer? I just moved from Charlotte, NC where AMC would offer kids (and parents) to come once a week for free kid-themed (G, PG & PG-13) movies ( of course you need to buy their yummy movie popcorn and drinks!). Now that my daughter is a little more movie theater age friendly (4), though it would be fun. Please advise (I live in Plainfield) - thanks! J.
Just wanted to thank everyone for their great responses! I haven't had time to respond to each individually but some of you mentioned getting together for a playdate some time; we'd LOVE it! I will email you soon to set something up. Thanks again and Happy Summer to all!

J. -- I too live in Plainfield w/a 4 year old little girl. Last year the theater in Lemont and across from the Joliet Mall had free movies. If you are in need of a play date at the park maybe we could connect. Welcome to Plainfield !! e-mail me direct ____@____.com
They use to have dollar movies at Kendall 10 in Oswego during the summer a couple summers ago 1 or 2 days a week. I dont know if they still do, but that might be something to check out.

I don't know of any free ones, but the Super Saver Cinema (located in the Loius-Joliet Mall) offers all movies all day everyday for $2.00 per person except on Tuesdays when they are only $1.00. That's about as free as you get around this area!!! Good Luck and enjoy your movies!!!!!
I'm no help on the movies, but I moved from Charlotte in December. I live in Aurora & have met 3 other families who recently moved from Charlotte too...crazy, huh! I have 3 1/2 year old & 8 month old boys. I hope that you are settling in and adjusting to the area! I'm not much help on activities for the kids, but feel free to email & chat anytime!...and of course I'll be checking your feedback too! Thanks for submitting the great question!
J.,
Plainfield has free family movies in 'Settler's Park' - downtown Plainfield just off James Street. They begin in June and go through the summer and you can find out in our local paper called 'The Enterprise', or check this link:
http://www.plainfield-il.org/events.php
They also have free concerts, it's fun - you can bring a blanket and sit outside and there is a small band shell. This weekend is 'Spring Fest', although with the construction downtown Plainfield I am assuming it will be at the Village Green, there will be rides and restaurant samples, so you and your daughter should enjoy that.
I also have a four year old daughter, maybe we can meet at the park sometime, let me know :-)
Welcome to Plainfield, I've lived here all my life (as did four generations before me, so my kids are fifth generation locals!!)
:-)

Last year the following theaters had FREE/$1 movies usually once a week around 10am. The websites include theaters in other locations too, these are just the ones I'm familar with.
Kendall 10, Oswego - www.gqti.com (free movie info not avail yet)
Nova 8, Naperville - www.novacinemas.com (free movie info not avail yet)
Ogden 6, Naperville - see below
Tivoli, Downers Grove - see below
www.classiccinemas.com/wmms2008.asp - The Wednesday Morning Movie Series will be returning for the summer on June 11th! This year the Series will be 9 weeks, and will run every Wednesday starting June 11th – August 6th. The Series will only be showing G and PG rated films, which makes it perfect for all ages! Admission is only $1 per person!
I'm not aware of any theatres sponsoring this, but the Naperville Park District offers free lunch hour entertainment for kids on Tuesdays and Thrusdays during the summer, starting June 10th. Stuff like juggling, magician tricks, sing and dance alongs, etc. The shows are at Noon near the warming house on the Riverwalk. Your 4 year old might also enjoy the kite festival being held in Frontier Park on June 7th and 8th.
I recommend you go to the Naperville Park District office, which is on the Riverwalk and pick up a copy of their Summer Program Guide. They actually offer alot of free activities for kids and their families.
Welcome to the area!

Check the papers there are usually theaters that do that in the summer but you may have to travel north a little. We go the the super saver cinema at the joliet mall. They have $2 movies and one day a week I think it is only $1.
Hi,
Classic Cinemas (they own the Tivoli in Downers Grove and a couple of other theaters) does something for kids once a week. I don't know if it's free, but I know their movies are VERY reasonably priced.
Also, there is a theater called Nova 8 off of Rt 59 in Aurora. Their matinees are something like $3 and the have a cheap popcorn and soda combo.
The Nova 8 in Naperville (at Route 59 and Aurora) has free movies once a month or so during the summer. You can check it out on their website (NovaCinemas.com).
The Nova 8 in Naperville (at Route 59 and Aurora) offers $1 movies on Wednesdays (timing not sure) in summer...
J.:
Welcome to Illinois! It seems as if everyone has already mentioned most of the theatres for summer movies. I'm not sure if your question was a financially related or not, but in Naperville there is a "cheap" theater called Ogden Cinemas. They play some older movies, but they also play movies that have been out only 3 weeks or so. I beleive tickets are $3 each. You would have to pay for popcorn and such, but the movie cost is significantly cheaper. This is year round. Also, I live in Oswego and they do "movies in the park" on Wednesday summer nights. I have yet to attend, but will try it for the first time this year. Check your local park district to see if they have something similar. Good luck!
check out www.classiccinemas.com, the past few summers they have $1 movies on wed mornings for kids. They do it in the summer after school is out for the year. I did not see the schedule online yet, but you can keep checking.
yes. Both Cantera 30 off of Winfield and Amc in Naperville on Ogden Ave. I also know of one in Woodridge. None have posted their summer schedules, but I am sure if you called, they would give you more info. Canteras movies were in the mornings at 10a.m.
Hope this helps.
