Fraternal... Identical

Okay... so my boys are now 15 months old and for some reason I am questioning if they are Fraternal or Identical.
Here is my situation, my boys were in seperate sacs and had seperate placentas... So most cases that means they would be Fraternal. So that's just what I thought??? We'll I just found out that they could still be Identical, it just depends on when the egg splits. My boys look sooooo much a like everyone thinks they are Idendical. The one main factor that should tell me if they are or not before doing genetic testing would be if they have the same blood type. Do you think the doctors would have let us know if they had the same blood type??? I think it would be good to know. Also I would stop questioning this! Ahhhhh, you think I would know being mom... but I'm really confused right now.
They have their 15 month check up the beginning of September and i plan on asking their Ped.
Does anyone have any advice on this???

What can I do next?

I agree with asking for their blood types. Fraternal twins can certainly look alike. Mary Kate and Ashley Olson are fraternal twins and until they turned all weird looked identical.

Hi J. -

I have identical twin boys and my boys were in separate sacs and separate placentas. Through my entire pregnancy they said they were fraternal but when they were born they looked SO much alike. We couldn't tell them apart, we had to polish one of their nails. There is no physical difference in the boys. This has continued - they are now 4 and they weigh within ounces of one another, within 1 inche of each other. They have consistently gotten their teeth within days (usually within 1 day) of one another. My doctor is about 98% sure they are identical. We haven't done the zygosity testing yet but we want to. Good Luck to you!!

Definely call or go to the Ped or OB Dr!!! I had twins 18 yrs ago and THEY GAVE me their blood types. Mine are fraternal Boy (A+)/Girl(A-). You should get this from the delivery records ie.... T1 or T2, sex-m, apgar1..., apgar 2 with blood type for both. Good luck. C.

More than likely they are Fraternal. Know this may not be what you want to hear, but two different sacs with two seperate placentas in each own's sac, probably fraternal. Fraternal twins can also have the same blood types, so this will not answer that either. You can just call the hospital and ask to view your delivery records, but some hospitals do not test the cord bloods type unless the mom is RH negative. The reason to check the baby of a RH negative mom is to see if the mom needs rhogam, no need if the mom is positive. Some hospitals still do the OLD way of just testing all cord blood, but many have moved away from it to save cost as it serves no purpose if the baby is healthy.
How close are the kids in size. Your identical twins will be the same length and very very close in weight. They will also develop at the same rates. You will see the same hair patterns as well. The only true way to find out is genetic testing, but I think if you just wait until two, you will be able to tell. I sometimes think strangers are your best free resource. If strangers see a difference in the kids, then they are for sure fraternal.
Just to let you know, you will not get an answer from your peds. He/she is going to tell you the same thing I said and say, "only time will tell". More than likely fraternal and just know you are a double egg girl and you can have another set when going for the next one. (((HUGS)))).

I have always known my daughter's blood type I asked after she was born just so I would know.

Ask your doctor who should tell you and if they don't know have a blood test done to find out.

I would want to know if they were identical also it would drive me nuts not knowing. I have friends that are identical twins and have gotten paid to do all sorts of tests for the UofM. Even as adults they still get paid to do tests.

You can call their ped. and ask him what their blood type is. My cousins were fraternal and looked identical until they got older.
