Fracture in Distal Tibia May Involve Growth Plate

My 20 month old fractured her tibia over the weekend. She has a fracture in her distal tibia. The doctor is not sure if it involves the growth plate. She is in a cast for three weeks and then they will take more x-rays to see how it is healing and if it is in the growth plate. Has anyone had this happen? If the growth plate was effected, what was the outcome?
Thanks

My daughter broke her foot right along the growth plate. They watched it like a hawk and it made me so nervous for her. So far it has been OK but as a Mom I always worry!

Worrying about it wont change the outcome. Schooling yourself will, so this is a good place for that. Chances are she will be fine. Doc's always try to give you the worse case scenario so that when it goes perfect they get to be heroes. My bet is that she will be fine :)

I went through this with my 2 yr old in October. 2 wks in a cast and he was good as new. Turned out his growth plate wasn't part of the fracture at all.

My daughter just fractured both growth plates....fibulas. (one in the end of nov, one in beginning of dec) So far it looks like they are both healing nicely :)

My brother had a break go into his growth plate when he was 10... his arm is normal. I had a fracture go into my growth plate when I was 16, and my right (the broken) arm is slightly shorter than my left... It DID grow, just at a slower pace. I'm not sure how it works...

She'll be fine-bone has memory-it will grow and mend and even itself out. What puzzles me is the doctor not saying it is most likely a growth plate-but this will not impact the outcome-we'll deal with it.
