Formula:Switching It Up?

No problem. They really are the same. I used both for my kids. The stores
would sometimes run out of one so I would buy the other. Never caused a
problem.

sorry to the other mommas who wrote yes.. actually dont do that if you are planning to go back to your old formula. baby's tummys are so sensitive and their digestive system is not quite fully developed yet.

Formulas look the same on the nutrician labels, but they are actually different compounds..

i tried switching formula a few times with my baby because he was colicky and I was trying to find one that worked.. but I tell you, EVERY single time I switched formula he had tummy troubles. Gas, constipation, then diarrhea oh gosh I could go on and on... NOPE please, if you are planning to stick to Similac, then by all means, but if you are going back to your old formula, think twice about it.

If you need to ween your baby off the old formula and give her similac, I say mix 1/2 with similac with 1/2 of what she has now.... do that for a couple of days and see how she handles it.. do that until your old formula is gone.. and switching back, do the same

Can you mix the two formulas together? That is how one weans/ introduces a new food to animals whose digestive systems are easily upset. Aside from that, I don't think it should be a problem, unless your child gets upset stomachs easily.

I don't think it should mess up his system at all at 8 months. If it tastes different he might not want to drink it, but otherwise I don't think there is a problem at all.

They are similar yes, but it depends on your little one. My oldest could drink anything, even soy, generic, whatever, no issues ever. number 2 had to be on soy, but brand never mattered, FF to number 4 and serious allergies and there was only 1 formula on the market that he could use.

In MOST cases i'd say you'll be fine, try a can and see if nothing else, watch for spitting up, constipation, gas ect. but most likely it won't be a big deal and it will save you a bundle.

My friend's pediatrician said that they were absolutely NOT the same.

My daughter was bf most of her life, supplementing formula towards the year mark. I switched it up to Similac when we traveled during the summer because it was all I could find in individual packets that would be easy to travel with.

After only ONE bottle, she was sooooo constipated. I've never seen her writhe like that.

I would definitely recommend against switching. But of course, check with your ped.

I used up the samples and free formula as I transitions to milk. I used our normal formula for the first week to ten days to make sure she could handle cows milk. After that I used up the free toddler formula and the other infant formula. I think I only had two different brands.

I don't think you should do it. We had to switch my son's formula a few times while we trying to figure out his issues and it was rough. It made him very constipated and gave him a tummy ache each time. I was so thankful when we finally found the one he needed! He had a major sensitivity to milk proteins so we finally settled on soy, but it was a long road! I also encourage you to buy the generic. I used Target generic with each of my kids and it was great! The generics are just as nutritional as the labels, but all the formulas are slighly different in formula although they are all equally effective in giving nutrition, etc. If you do go generic, yes it will be a change, but one that's worth it in my opinion, then make sure you again stick with the same generic each month, but it will easily cut $10 off per can! If you are after saving money, consider buying the drug store brand. We bought CVS powdered formula for our DS. It cost something like $14 a can, even cheaper if we caught a sale.
