Trying to transition my 4 month old from gentlease formula to regular formula and it is not going well; at what point do we throw in the towel? Right now we have been doing a 50/50 mix and she is very grumpy and we are only on day two.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We gave up and will try again when she is older. I have a lot of allergies and am worried about starting food wanted to have the formula switch done before introducing solids.

Try going with less of the new. When infants are transitioned to milk off formula we do 2 oz. whole milk to 6 oz. formula. Then when that is doing well we go 50/50. Then a week or so later, maybe longer we go to 6 oz. regular whole milk to 2 oz. formula. Once that is going well we switch to regular all the time.

I would think it could be the same with switching from one formula to another. At 4 months the bottle is smaller so I would still use the ratio, 1/4 then eventually 1/2, the on to 3/4, then all the way. It takes time and often we would take over a month to transition an older infant.

Take time and move up to higher ratio's slowly.

my 14 month old was on alimentum and we never did switch. If it's for allergy reasons then chances are it's too soon. Wait till her first birthday. We are still on the toddler version of gentlease now, along with soy milk.

If she didn't have success with it on the first day, then it is too soon. Usually, if I don't see a positive change in my kids in a couple of bottles, then I won't switch because they aren't ready. (Both my kids had to be on Alimentum and soy so I have been there.) usually I couldn't change until 13 months or so, and then we went to goat milk instead of regular milk. If you don't want to pay extra for the gentlease then try soy, but usually their tummies make a change about 6 months, 8 or 9 months, and about a year. 4 months seems early to me. Good Luck!

My 3 month old is on Target brands version of gentlease. We tried to switch her a month ago and it was horrible. I wanted to change because gentlease is made with soy oil, which makes the poops horrible smelling and she was going in the middle of the night with her feedings at that time. She seems to have regulated to 2 times a day now so I deal with it, LOL. If the price is what is driving the switch, consider Target's version. It is a heck of a lot cheaper. The only down fall is if you run out you can only get it at Target.
