Call your dealer and tell the service dept what happened and ask if they can take the back seat out and clean up the spill.
My son receives g-tube feedings. 3 weeks ago, a port to his feeding tube was left open while he was being fed in the car. 10 ounces of formula leaked into his carseat and onto the back of the seat of the car and behind the seat. I cleaned his carseat. I mopped up the formula from the seat of my car with water, used carpet cleaner, vacuumed and let it dry. Now 3 weeks later, my car smells like sour milk. What can I do to get the smell out? I know some of the formula went behind the seat but I don't know of a way to get the back seat out to clean it up. Do you have any ideas for me? I like my car but I don't like smelling sour milk every time I get in it! I drive a Chevy Impala.

Hi B.,
You sound like you are looking for a "do-it-yourself" method to clean the seat. I would check around first to see if you can find someone to professionally clean it first just to save you the time and hassle...but if you decide to do it at home this is what I would do:
If you have a carpet cleaning machine use a baking soda, vinegar and soap (I use the tiniest bit of Tide) solution and go over the area really well. Then (since it is so cold out) use a hair dryer to dry the area. If you let the water sit too long you'll get the musty smell back.
If you don't have the machine, make baking soda paste with warm water and scrub the area, then use a vinegar water solution to rinse the area with a spunge. It is okay for the area to get a little wet, but you'll have to dry it well with a hair dryer.
The baking soda kills the odor, the vinegar kills the germs, and area has to be dried very well.
*You might want to put old towels over the area and apply pressure before you start with the hair dryer....and either use the lower settings on the dryer or hold the dryer away from the seat while it is on high.
Good luck!
We have an impala and you should be able to get to behind the seat from the trunk. Our car has a pass through back seat and when that is folded down there is a little lip that covers the back of the seat from the trunk that you can lift up. A car detail shop might be less than taking it to the dealer too. Good luck.
Call your dealer or a local dealer and have it cleaned. Yes sounds like a waste of $$ but really they can do it cheaper then you going out and wasting time and money trying to do it yourself. You can usually get a seat cleaning for around $20-30. You don't have to get the whole car clean. Just remember to explain what happened and where you think the milk may have gone.
Also we had this happen a while ago but it was with pee, We never put a car seat in a car now without a towel underneath. Has saved us from many cleanings!
Best product ever! I have a bottle in the car and at home

We had this situation and had to have the car professionally cleaned - not once but twice. The car cleaner guy told me to leave my window open a bit at night if the car is in the garage...the cold helped the smell get out of the car. Hope this helps - no smell like that one. Yuck!!
