My 10 month old son is on milk based formula, he got a hold of my 2 year olds sippy cup of milk and LOVED it so much I had to pry it out of his hands. He was screaming...That was yesterday afternoon.Ever since then when I give him formula (in a bottle or sippy cup)he takes a few sip and spits it out and lets it run down his chin. When ever he sees my daughter and her sippy cup he gets hysterical. i know he needs formuls until hes a year or so but have any of you given your babys milk to a 10 month old to drink along with his formula?

What can I do next?

Hi A.~
My daughter was the same way--loved the taste of her brother's milk at around 10 months also. Because of the risk of allergies, I went ahead and gave her Rice Dream Rice Milk instead. At that point, she started self-weaning from breastfeeding, so I figured she'd be ok to start drinking a minimal amount of this. I still pumped & gave it to her in a sippy cup though to make sure she got everything she needed.
I know most peds say to wait until 12 months, but go with your gut, that's the only thing you can always trust!!

All of my kids were breastfed, but we started introducing milk to all three when they were 10 months old. Our pediatrician said it was fine to nurse and give them regular milk starting at 10 months. I remember him saying that if they had one cup a day at 10 months that would not hurt them. By 11 months they had 2 cups. I am sure a little milk once a day would not hurt him.

They do say to wait until 12M. I'm not sure. Maybe you can try to give him his formula cold like the regular milk? Just an idea.

I thinnk it would be ok as long as he is getting plenty of nutrition elsewhere through baby food or table foods.

I don't believe that anything magical happens at the 12 month mark that enables them to tolerate or transition to cow's milk. I mean, it's 8 weeks from his first birthday... I say if he loves it, go for it. Especially if he's tolerating it well. :)

I really think the '12 months on formula' stand stems from the fact that too many children have diets that fall short in the nutrition department... so erase the guilt if he's getting a good balanced diet otherwise :)

My son went on regular milk at 6 months old. He is now 17 years old, very healthy, over 6 foot tall and strong as an ox. Our doctor said that he had no problem with him going on regular milk after he 6 months but not before. I nursed for 4 months did formula for 2 months and he went on regular milk at 6 months. In fact he drink about 3 gallons of skim milk a week to this day. He loves it.
So in my option let him have the regular milk. Have you ever tasted formula?? I wouldn't what formula if I could have the real milk from the cow.

S.

PS: Our doctor also said that you do not need to use whole milk because children get enough milk fats in there other food.
