Hi T...that means that she has had too much milk. Its very alarming to see it happen. It just means she taking so much in before she has a chance to digest it.

Call your ped. and ask for an appointment and if necessary see an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) doctor. My son had this and we didn't find out until he was a year old that his throat was not closing properly so he needed surgery. He had reflux and instead of it being spit up it would bypass his throat and come out his nose. Some days it was so strong that it would hit his feet. I don't want to scare you but it's better to have it checked out thoroughly. It might just be the formula that giving reflux...

This happened to my now 2 year old when she was born in the hospital and continued when we got home. We switched formula's to Isomil Soy Formula. After it still continued we went and tried out Dr. Browns Bottles and it decreased by 75%. She would still have an episode every few days but the bottles really helped. She had a lot of gas and she ate fast so when she would burp or spit up it would come out w/such force that it would come out her nose. It was so scary and she would scream but after we started those bottles she was just fine. Good luck!

It's normal for anything to come through the nose. Yes it does hurt. When you get sick does it hurt you. Anything comming through the nose isn't nice. The baby will be fine. Just make sure you suck the babies nose after. Try to keep it in a sitting position to feed it. If you feed the baby in its car set or sitting up it will help witht he throwing up and spitting up.

call your ped and have an ultrasound done if she starts to do it more frequently. It could be pyloric stynosis (sp) where the muscle at the bottom of the stomach becomes too thick that it shuts everything off and then things come back up very violently. My ped said that about 1 in 600 kids has this. I had a foster child with it. It is worth looking into. You will know if it is something serious if it continues to get worse.

It's totally normal, my babies did that too! When I vomit it comes out of my mouth and nose as well. You know, all the pipes intertwine :) I'm sure it doesn't feel good, but it is normal

I would call your pediatrician. My daughter experienced this due to acid reflux.

A little late to get in on this maybe, but this happend to my first son when he was just weeks old while I was nursing him, I called the ped nurse and she explained to me that he was simply full and not to worry. Boy did I feel silly! Hope this is the case for your lil one, and that it is nothing serious. Take care! ~ Debbie

Hi T.,

This happened to my son when he was about 5mths old. When the DR begin to look into it, they discovered he had a bad case of acid reflux. Another sign that may accompany that might be her arching her back and crying. If your daughter is also doing that I would recommend a visit to the DR. Hope this helps!

Did you switch nipples to a faster flow? Try sitting her up more when feeding, burp her or give her a little break every so often so the food has time to settle. She might need to feed more often if she is gulping because of hunger, maybe she won't eat quite as fast (does she eat fast?).

This could also definitely be a sign of acid reflux. If the slower flow bottles, or the "no gas" bottles, and other things don't help. It would be a great idea to have her checked for reflux.

Hi T.,

I experienced this with my now 10month when she was 2 days old. Of course we were still in the hospital but it did frighten us. Very healthy, no complications during birth. They actually put a tube down her nose and "flushed her stomach out" You may just want to take her to the doctor to ensure that there aren't any other type of digestive problems.

A little about me:

Full-time working mother of three 10yr old daughter, 8 yr old son & most recent addition, who has just completed our family, 10 mon old daughter.

I am sorry. What is your question? I am not trying to be mean, but it's more like a statement.

Maybe she has issues when she swallows, if your worried. Call your pediatrican and ask a nurse why this may happen.
