Formula and Solids for 11 Month Old Boy

My son will soon be 11 months. He is 31 3/4 inches tall and his weight is 27 pounds.
His daily menu is 8-9 oz formula in the morning, then 9 oz yoghurt with 3 teaspoons of muesli and fresh fruits (1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, 1/2 pear or other combination). For lunch he eats 10 oz of creamy soup (4-5 vegetables, 1 ts olive oil and 1 ts of baby cheese with meat or chicken or fish in moderation). In the afternoon he eats 1 egg yolk with 1/2 slice of bread and before bedtime he drinks 8-9 oz formula. I am worried that maybe he is not getting enough formula but he is not hungry:)

So What Happened?

Thank you for the answers to my worries:) I forgot to mention that he drinks around 10 oz of water daily too. I have tried juices but he doesn't like them, he prefers fruits or pured fruits instead. My pediatrician has said that his formula intake is fine since I am also giving him yogurt and cheese too.

he will be fine, don't worry about the formula. If you want you can certainly cut down his food intake and add one more bottle. He eats plenty.

WOW! he's a big boy! and a good eater! only 18 ozs of milk doesn't sound like enough. I would subsitute some food for more milk. just while he's still so young...but check with your dr.

L.,

Sounds like your son is doing great. I would add a cup or two of water, but otherwise your meal plan covers all the bases.

BTW, my son is 34 inches, 25.5 pounds and he is 18 months old, you have a healthy boy.

By 12 mos, a child can switch to whole milk. At that point they need 16-20 oz of milk. My pediatrician said 16 oz. is fine as long as your child is eating cheese and yogurt too... sounds like your child is getting plenty!

Ok, first of all, your son is huge! He must be in the 90th percentile! Go with his lead because genetically he seems like a big boy. He probably should have more formula, probably 3 bottles a day. But don't worry too much about it, he is almost 12 months old and clearly quite healthy.

my son is the same age and our pediatrician said as long as he has around 16-20oz a day that's fine. My son does 8 oz in the morning, then 4-6 oz in the afternoon, then another 6oz at bedtime (after his dinner&bath). It sounds like your son is growing just fine, so go with what works for him!

You're son is healthy and consuming enough formula. No need to worry.

Soiunds like he has a FANTASTIC diet!! Good for you! I wonder though if he is getting enough to drink. I think with all he is eating, and evident by his growth, he doesn't need formula as much perhaps for nutrition...not that I would cut it out altogether, butis he some days only drinking 16 oz altogether or are you giving him something to drink with his meals perhaps?? I day if he is drinking with meals in addition to his two servings of formula that you have nothing to worry about.

Sounds like he is eating plenty. About twice as much as my 14 month old boy.

I would not worry about his formula intake since he is certainly eating alot of solid foods. Your doctor is probably going to take him off of formula in a month and switch him to milk, so if this schedule is working for you, I would stick with it!

If you are worried, you can always slip in an extra bottle with lunch. But don't expect him to eat as much. The quantities you quote and his height and weight indicate that he is probably doing just fine. If he is getting the same nutrients in other foods, by 11 months it is not such a big deal.
You will probably switch him to cow's milk soon anyway, so to push formulas now may not be in your long term plans anyway.

Since he is eating so much solids he isn't going to want the formula. At that age they still need at least 20 ounces inclusive of milk in other foods. Instead of the afternoon snack of the egg yolk you could give him a few ounces of formula and some finger foods instead. I would check with your prediatrician.
