Forgot to Use Handicapped Permit

I went out this afternoon and forgot to put up my handicapped permit. The ticket I got was over $300! Does anyone know if appealing it will work, since I forgot to display it? This was in Allen. If I appeal it, it needs to be worth it because they're almost certainly going to schedule the court date for sometime when I have to work (which is quite a ways away in Mesquite).

What can I do next?

You can probably get the ticket dropped as long as you show them your permit. You may be able to fax them a copy on the permit. I know my husband got a ticket for no insurance (I forgot to put the new one in the car) and all we had to do was fax them a copy of the valid insurance card and the ticket was dropped. Hopefully it will be the same for you. Let us know how it turns out. Talk to you later!

Call the clerk of the court and ask whether you might be able to bring in the handicapped permit and have the ticket removed; you may be able to schedule that at any time that is convenient. If the clerk does not help, call the City Attorney's office and explain your situation, and ask whether you might be able to provide the permit and have the ticket charges dropped. OR, ask about whether you might get a suspended sentence or something. good luck.

As far as I know, as long as you are handicapped, and have the permit, even if its not shown, you should be able to appeal it and get it dropped.

Here's some advice to a similar situation as yours:
"When you go to court, provide the judge with all the evidence you have.If the officer made an error, and as long as you can prove that you have a valid Handicap card the ticket should be overturned. It would also help if you got a letter from your doctor who authorized that you need the handicap permit. Once the judge reviews what you have provided he should dismiss and void the ticket."

I can't believe you got a ticket. Can you prove the person to whom the permit belongs was in the car with you? If you can the $300 ticket you save may be worth the day off work.
