Have you all ever watched Monster in Laws? I could probably guarantee after watching even just one episode, your in law issues will seem minor. LOL.

I do not subscribe to cable but I can watch the spisodes online at aetv.com and I always feel better. Much better.

Anyone else use reality shows to feel normal again?

What can I do next?

I caught part of one last night and almost called MIL to tell her thank you. Thank you for NOT being that MIL!

The flip side is that if my mom came 3 times a day banging on my door and berated my good man to his face and in front of the kids, I would take steps to stop it long before I felt I had to move...or I wouldn't have moved near her in the first place.

I always watch Hoarders and then feel better about how messy the house is. Then, I go and purge a closet. :)

My husband has worked as a videographer on several reality shows. In most cases (not all), reality shows are well produced. Nothing just 'happens', it is ALL planned. The participants are guided on what to say, how to say it (especially if it will antagonize someone else on the show or pull at the heart strings), where to stand etc. by the directors/producers. Plus the editing makes a scene 'seem' a particular way, but in reality it had never played out that way all. They have to manipulate the footage to get more shock-n-awe. So no, I never use reality shows as any type of measurement to my life. There's nothing very 'real' about them.

You may ask why the participants would do it if they aren't being portrayed the exact way it happened. The answer - they WANT their 15 minutes of fame!!!!!! My husband asked someone once why they would be on a show that makes them look bad. Their response - I'm on TV man!

I've never watched it, but now I'm curious!

My OWN mother is getting kind of monsterish lately. I've been avoiding her. Sigh.

Bravo TV makes me think I am the most rational human being on the planet, and that all of my family members will be greeting me at the pearly gates :)

ETA: "Hoarders" just motivates me to clean, and purge, because my parents are boarderline hoarders.
