One piece of advice: COMMUNICATION! Many times in the past, the team manager is essential in providing information. I would definitely talk to the coach to see how you want to handle this area. I prefer email &/or cell phone. Sometimes, the coach struggles to communicate with all the parents so that's when the team mom steps in. Also, many times you are responsible for ordering t-shirts/sweatshirts, etc. If you are unsure of places that may give discounts for your club, talk to the main coordinator (if the coach is unsure). Just ask the coach how you can be supportive. If he/she is unsure, discuss how to communicate, snacks schedule, meeting times, etc. Also, if there is any traveling, make sure there are clear directions to the field. Good luck with your football season. It will be fun!

Maybe we can muddle through this together because I was just asked last night to be the team mom for Pee Wee. That includes the Pee Wee players and the Cheerleaders!! Uh oh!!!

One of the mom's here mentioned communication. The Team mom for Jr. Pee Wee last year was really good with communication and that was really appreciated. She didn't decorate or anything like that, but let us know where we needed to be and what we needed to bring. She organized the Gatorade schedule for the games, passed on the info for the fundraisers, collected money for them, organized the team party, and collected the football gear from the straggler parents who couldn't make the team turn-ins. She said all that was easy part though. The hard part was being the buffer for the parents!! (Last year was our first year and I had soooooo many questions!!)

Anyway, good luck and keep in touch! I'm really nervous about the "Challenging but rewarding" job that I agreed to do!

I've never been a 'football mom' but I've been a soccer mom for several years and this year I'm so excited to try out this new website that I discovered called Volunteerspot.com - supposedly (I haven't tried it yet) it helps you organize the other families, allows people to volunteer to bring snacks and whatever else is necessary using the the website and their calendaring system. It also reminds them and you periodically etc. Anyway, it's free, so I thought it was worth mentioning. Have fun!

Me and a friend are team moms for our son's football team this year--They're 8. We put together a volunteer form for other parents to sign up for snacks for each game. We make sure to ALWAYS have water & gatorade ready and available. We set up the family picnic each year, as well as a sign up sheet for that also for families to contribute. Since I'm 1st aid & CPR certified, I have a 1st aid kit available at each game, should the need arise. We help with the "team spirit"--We get some pompoms for each game, help to decorate cars for away games, etc. We do a lot, lol!! We mainly focus on making it a fun experience for the kids and their families, especially at a younger age.
Have fun with it!!!

YOu'll probably have to set up pictures.
Get uniforms to the kids
Make a snack schedule so the other moms know what day they are bringing the snack, if footballers do this. Soccer kids always have a snack.
Usually you bring a schedule of the games and let moms sign up.
Get all the moms' emails and phone numbers, make a roster for the rest of the team.
At the end collect a couple $$ from each family to get the coach a gc to somewhere.
Can you get a mom tee shirt that others can order too.
Set up the party at the end, maybe even a couple spirit nights at an ice cream place, DQ or the local ice cream stand.
