Yep, sounds like PF! Ive had it for about ten years. It got to the point that I felt like there were permanent blood blisters or bruises on my heels. My insurance covered orthotic insoles and I love them. Like another poster I can tell a big difference if I wear flip flops for a couple of days. There are a few things you can do to ease the pain without seeing a Dr.
1. Try not to sleep on your stomach or any position that puts your feet in a "pointed" position. If you cant sleep without being on your stomach, try putting a large, firm pillow under your ankles to keep the mattress from pushing them into the point position. This will help with the pain when you wake.
2. When you get up, put your toes and ball of the foot on the wall with your heel on the floor. Lean forward until it stretches your arch. You may have some trial and error. I had to find the right position because otherwise it only felt like my thigh was stretching.
3. stand on a tennis ball, lemon or other round thing with some "give". I love a raquetball.
4. Freezing a water bottle, almost full of water, also helps. Make sure you leave room for the water to expand and freeze before putting the lid on.
5. Sometimes you can find a "boot" or brace for sale at a local store, but they also sell helpful stuff in some footwear catologs. There are things that look like socks with straps to keep your toes from pointing while you are asleep (like a boot splint does). I would Google for appliances that help PF.
Good Luck
