My daughter is 10 and has a food problem. She eats Flamin Hots and she gained 25 pounds. She wont take my advice to stop eating them. And she is by polar. She lives with her dad and she eats African food because, her dad is African . I tell him dont do that and she gets the money from her dad or he buys it for her. I give her fruits and veggies we try to work out but she is lonely in her neighborhood there is no kids. She has a bike but she says it hurts.

What can I do next?

You don't say how a 10 year old is getting Flamin Hots without your involvement. Why is this food in the house? If you or other adults aren't buying it, how is she getting into stores with money to buy them without your help or acquiescence? It's time to stop advising her and start taking control. If this food is in the house, that has to stop, even if that ticks off other household members. Kids go through growth spurts and can put on weight quickly for a lot of reasons - you don't say the time period for the 25 pounds so it may or may not be all due to what she's eating.

If she is bipolar, that doesn't mean she's immune to rules and structure. There's a huge nutritional factor involved in various forms of depression, mental illness and behavioral issues. Food cravings can also result from an internal imbalance. It's actually the body's natural desire to add nutrients, but if we grab the wrong things, we don't solve the problem and we make it much worse.

I work in the food science field, and we are seeing huge results with nutritional breakthroughs and current research, with pretty rapid positive changes when the balance is restored. A lot of kids get especially quick results, and we are seeing all kinds of things like bipolar, autism, Asperger's, ADHD, PDD-NOS and sensory issues start to turn around in as little as 2-4 weeks. It's incredibly simple if the parent is consistent. Happy to help you more.

I agree if she is on medication for her mental illness, that an cause weight gain. Speak with her physician...and not in front of your daughter, about your concerns.

Does she like to swim, ride a bike, run? More exercising is what will help her.

And keep junk food out of your house.

I am pretty sure she is eating more than flamin Hots to gain twenty five pounds and if she is BI polar, and is on medication, that can attribute the weight gain to a metabolism change. I want to take your note seriously but I was a bit reserved about it. If she is ten years old and you are in charge of her food environment still, then of course purchase only good healthy foods, watch her portions that are served and keep temptation out of reach.
And I might tell you this, it is also easy to find goodies when Mom isn't looking. I used to make frosting and eat the entire bowl in the bathroom with the door locked-when I was twelve. Really.
