Food Ideas for One-year-old

Hello,

Our little one just turned 1 yesterday and she's only got one tooth. As a result, she prefers her food mashed up...since she's in the 5th percentile for weight, I'm trying to find some creative, good-fats, foods for her. I recently tried avacado mixed with cream cheese and she loved it. I actually haven't tried mashed potatoes with butter or olive oil but I bet she'd like that. I just don't want to keep spending money on baby food, when she only eats about half the jar. She also does not seem to like whole milk but seems to enjoy soy milk and kefir (who knew?!).

Thanks!

What can I do next?

We would just put whatever we were eating in the blender or babyfood grinder and give that to our kids. I never bothered spending all of the money on babyfood. She can definitely be eating regular bananas, graham crackers will be her best friend, cheerios, toast, rice crispies were always a HUGE hit here, mac & cheese...you can try a bit of a scrambled egg but introduce the yolk to her first before the white incase of allergy...spaghetti is wonderful as long as you cut up the noodles...applesauce, pears, etc. Have fun with it!

fish sticks, tuna, peanut butter, green beans cooked carrots, peas, hominy tomatoes, I agree with pureeing what you eat. oatmeal would be good hamburger and sausage broken up real good. anything that mashes like bread and cracker dissolve. no hotdogs until 2 viennas mash up good.

I also had a toothless one year old. In addition to several of the suggestions already given: I also gave my daughter small bits of salmon, poached chicken livers, goat's milk, plain Greek yogurt (higher protein; thicker and easier for self-feeding), scrambled eggs with fine diced spinach, added coconut milk to dishes. Large white lima beans cooked in vegetable or chicken stock are great tasting and easy for little hands to manage.

Remember that it takes 10-12 introductions to know if a baby "likes" something. It takes that long to develop their palates. Introducing a lot of flavors now will be to your benefit later.
