Food Ideas for Family Birthday Party - 4 Year Old, 25 Peeps

My daughter is turning 4. Theme is flowers, unicorns, fairies, and rainbows (basically little girl pink!). We are inviting family only. 25 people; half are kids all ages. It is mid November, held at our house. We did Mexican food (enchiladas, tacos, etc.) at our 1 year old's party. Don't want to repeat it unless we have to.

My husband and I were talking about doing potato soup and chili and then adding veggie and fruit trays. Is this crazy? Soup at a party?

Any other ideas? We want food that can be preped ahead of time and easy to serve. Any fun foods for the kids?!?!

THANKS!

What can I do next?

Sounds good to me. MMM We normally serve bbq chicken, baked beans, veggie tray, fruit tray and cheese tray. I make all the trays myself since they are so expensive at the store.

I think your husband's idea is fine. Just make sure to add other hearty
foods to ensure your guests are full such as: bread, crackers, the
veggie trays, fruit trays maybe add a couple of sourdough baguettes
w/mustard, mayo & a few lunch meats. Voila sandwich bar.

Or

You could have Italian fare:
Lasagna
Salad
Garlic Bread
Antipasto platter
Pizzas (they make theirs differently that our American-ized version
You could do either. )

or

You could make hamburgers
mini burgers for the kids
Baked Ore Ida french fries
Cole slaw
Potato Salad
Veggie tray
Cheese/salami tray served w/crackers

Or do all warm foods:
soup
warm spinach dip
TGIF Potato Skins
Clam chowder served in bread bowls
mini quiches
All baked warm foods.

Serve w/hot cocoa & coffee. Also, adult beverages.

Make cupcakes frosting each cupcake a diff color of the rainbow & serve
in shape of rainbow.

Sounds tasty! Can I come? :o)

When we do fair sized parties, we try to do the main dish (chili, bbq, etc) in a crock pot and keep it on low. As long as it is in a safe place, the food will always be warm.

Kids like to pick up and go off to play - what about finger sandwiches? Or little pizza rolls?

Nothing wrong with a nice bowl of soup, warm bread, corn bread, butter and fruit & veggies.
Tossed green salad maybe?

You could put the soup & chili into 2 crockpots.

I think soup and chili and the trays sound good : ). Maybe add some rolls or corn bread. I assume there will be cake too - so it sounds perfect to me.

My kids love fruit kebabs. I skewer sliced bananas, strawberries, star fruit, orange slices and provide a bowl of vanilla yogurt sweetened with a little honey as a fruit dip. If you wanna get all fancy, slice a cantelope and turn one half upside down to stick the skewers in and fill the other half with the dip. It looks really cool. Since it will be november, if fruit is too expensive, you can still do that with veggie skewers and ranch dip sticking out of a squash or something like that.
YOu could go to Sams or costco and buy a variety of one bite appetizer foods. Kids love miniature anything.

serve whatever you want. consider the logistics. If you have hot soup, you prob don't want kids runing round underfoot while it is being served/ eaten.

soup is not a finger food or a lap food. do you put out a bunch of bistro tables, and have people help themselves and sit down and mix and mingle. Are you going to set an adult and kids table up? is food itself part of the party agenda, or is it a backdrop?

good luck. I am sure it will be tasty and memorable.

soup at a party is not crazy as long as you will have table space for people to sit and eat. it is hard to balance soup on your lap lol. I myself would go with pizza and veggie trays and fruit. easier to pick up and eat in a crush of people.

I did a hot dog bar last year and it was a hit. We had every topping you could put on a hot dog from ketchup to chili to sauerkraut. It was fun, easy and not messy. I couldn't do soup because with that many people, we have to sit all over the house and it could be a disaster. Have fun!

I've also done pulled pork or beef sandwiches, but the hot dogs made everyone happy.

We have done pulled pork sandwiches. I usually get the pulled pork from GFS and put it in a crock pot with bbq sauce. Then I throw some green beans and macaroni & cheese it two other crock pots. The food stays warm during the entire party and people can eat when they want.

We have done soups and had good luck with that but lately, we do sloppy joes and hot dogs. Chips, veggie tray and desserts.
