So What Happened?

I want to get this so I can make Fruit rollup etc..Beef jerky etc. I like to do natural foods for my kids. I have to watch the dyes etc. I want my kids life to be as real as possible. I hate taking certian foods away, but it is for his own good. Hence I am constantly searching for new ideas of things for him.

I bought one for my mom and she loves it. It was about $100 and that seemed pretty average. The only thing to watch out for are the price of the additional bags - it will be an ongoing expense, so you'll probably want a brand that you can buy conveniently and inexpensively. The one I got for my mom (at Bed Bath and Beyond - can't remember the brand) has the bags available at Wal-Mart so it's very easy for her to pick them up and she doesn't have to make a special trip to BB&B each time she wants more.

Update: Oops. I read it wrong, I thought you were talking about a vaccuum sealer. disregard :(

I bought a nice Excalibur brand (highly recommended) on Ebay a few years ago. It was refurbished but came with a 10 yr warranty like the new ones. I paid about $150 but use it alot. The air is blown from the back so each tray evenly dries and you don't have to move trays around. It does take up alot of space so I have it in the basement and use it down there too.

We have one, my BIL has one and my inlaws have 2. Every single one of them was purchased at a garage sale. I don't think we paid more than $5. So if you don't mind used, that's the way to go.

We like ours a lot. It's one of those appliances we don't use often (maybe twice a year), but we are so happy to have when we do use it. We make a lot of jerky and fruit leather with ours.
