Does anyone do this any more? I am trying to bring our department together and would like to do a food day. Two weeks ago we did different desserts and last week we did rootbeer floats. I am thinking about doing breakfast for lunch tomorrow, but some of the guys I work with are kind of ifffy about it.

What other things can I do for food day? We will need to feed about 25 people.

Thanks

What can I do next?

We do dip day. You can bring in chips and dip of all kinds, or some bring in apples with dip, or bread and spinach dip, the possibilities are endless. We have about 50 people and seriously we fill up on this without having to eat lunch anywhere. They love it when we do this type of thing.

We do this about every 6 weeks or so in my office. Usually it's just a generic potluck, but we have been known to do "Soup Day" where everyone brings in either a crockpot full of some sort of homemade soup, or some of the younger people will be in charge of crackers, bread, shredded cheese, bowls/utensils, etc. It works out well for us & this is a military office with people ranging in age from 19 to 50.

Well, something simple to do is - Exchange Brown Bag Lunch Day.
Everyone brings in a brown bag lunch, puts it on a table, then selects a different brown bag to eat.
Everyone makes one lunch that way and everyone gets a surprise.
If you want, no one needs to identify who made what.

Another thing we use to do, especially around the holidays was - The Great Cookie Exchange.
Everyone brings in a large batch of a of home made cookie and an empty box.
When everyone has all their cookies on the table, everyone goes around and takes a few of each kind till their empty box is filled.
You go in with one type of cookie and can come out with a dozen or more different types. It's a great way to try all kinds of cookies and everyone only made one type (or variations of similar types).

We did themes like Mexican, Italian, foods that everyone seems to like. I would think it would be very hard to do a breakfast one. Most breakfast foods are not good cold or reheated. Think crockpots, cookers, and maybe even room temperature foods.

My hubby's work has a "potluck" type lunch, where eahc person brings something to share (dessert, veggies, fruit) while the company provides the main part (usually sandwiches or burgers & drinks).

What about ethnic foods day...everyone could bring in their favorite ethnic food..?? My son's 8th grade class did this (the teacher assigned the food, of course), but they enjoyed it. Or if you are doing this on a regular basis, you could do Mexican Cuisine day, Italian another time...etc etc etc...
It's not fancy but hot dog/chili dog day...I was at a place where they supplied hot dogs & everyone brought different toppings for them from peppers to the usual cheese, chili.....think Chicago style & whatever else (I can't remember everything that was there, as I am NOT an adventerous eater). Have fun!

How about a baked potato bar? One person could bring the jumbo baked potatoes, and everyone else brings another topping, cheese, chopped chicken, broccoli, bacon, sour cream etc.

During the Fall, we hold our annual "Chili Cook-off" competition. Everyone who wants to taste and vote pays $2 and the winner gets 50% of the total money earned....the rest goes toward our annual company picnic.

pot luck for lunch. We do this several times a year. Lots of fun. Have a sign up sheet where everyone can put down what they want to bring. If the company will cover the meat then just do sides and dessert. Yummy!

What we did at the last place I worked was everyone went on the list and when their week rolled around, they brought in treats (breakfast stuff usually, but whatever). That way you only had to do it 2-3 times a year, but got the benefit every week.
As for those whose wives may be making, we had those guys who would always bring in pastries or bagels or store-bought quiche.

What about themed lunches, Mexican, Italian, etc...?
Cold cuts and pasta/fruit salads.
When it's colder out, soups, breads and salads
Heavy appetizers, make sure some have meat and/or bread along with dips
Sounds fun, I'm hungry!

How about upscale ballpark food? Gourmet hotdogs (with loads of different toppings) and nachos with the works? Different flavored popcorn. The extras are the upscale part. ;) Have fun!

We do lunch pot lucks. Usually with a theme...Mexican, pizza, soups, etc. Everyone signs up to bring something like drink, salad, dessert, bread, appetizer. We do them once every two months, so they don't get redundant or bothersome for everyone. Weekly may be a bit much. You have to think of people's finances and such. You just never know what is going on with poeple. Good luck and God Bless.

You are trying to do something every single week? Is the company paying for and providing everything or are you asking each employee to bring something to contribute? The guys are probably "iffy" about it because their wives are at home complaining that they have to make or bring something every week. If you are asking each employee to bring something to contribute, weekly may be too much to ask. I would maybe do it once a quarter and you may have more participation. Good luck.

All the time. Sometimes we just bring in whatever and sometimes it is organized, like "mexican". We pass around a sign up sheet and everyone brings something. Worked with mostly women, though, and all the other sections were all envious of our great food days.

we usually do themes for our food day as well. do a sign up sheet for what needs to be brought and then we send out reminders the day before. we usually do it once every 2 months so it dosent become too much. we have had mexican, breakfast, hoagies, and hot dogs. usually around christmas we do the 12 days of christmas (the number of people in our department) and each person picks a day and brings in cookies - homemade. its alot of fun to do. good luck with your food days

One place I worked at we would do a pot luck lunch about every 6-8weeks. Everyone would bring in a dish, or rolls and beverages for those who did not cook, and we would all eat together.

It was fun and a nice break from the every day. But, if we had done it more often it would have seemed like a chore.

My favorite one was always "Soup, Salad, and Sundaes." You get lots of different varieties of soups and salads, and who doesn't love a sundae with all the toppings? :) Have fun!

If you're wanting to do sweets, do an ice cream sundae bar. A few people bring ice cream and everyone else brings a topping for the ice cream. :)

Taco bar.... have several people bring in the meat.... and everyone else bring in the fixings,,, cheese, lettuce, olives, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa and chips if they want to make it into a salad. What about pizza? have everyone put in $3 - 4 dollars, whatever it would cost and order a selection of pizzas and do that a few times a year from different places. I also agree that weekly might be too much. I would go with once a month.
