My son had the very same reaction to peas when he was about 5 months old. We were able to control that reaction with Benadryl and we took him to the ped who refered him to an allergist. He also had exzema as a baby and all colds would go directly to his chest and linger there. In the end we had him allergy tested and he was allergic to all kinds of outside things, pet dander, eggs, peas, tree nuts, peanuts and soy. He is now 2-1/2 and we had him tested again, looks as though all of the food allergies are dwindling except the soy.....so we are very optimistic that he is outgrowing the food allergies.

I would recommend talking to your ped. and watching for similar reactions with foods like milk, soy, eggs and the like very closely.....

I am not sure if you can be allergic to peas. I guess it is possible. I have boys with milk allergies who broke out in hives from it. They were small raised red bumps....almost like bug bites. But they went away on their own within about 20 minutes. Good luck. C.

I would call your PCP and ask what their opinion is. My youngest is teething and we can't give her orajel b/c it causes her to have to catch her breathe and that isn't a good thing.
please e-mail me and let me know what the dr says so i won't worry.

Peas are a legume and many children are allergic to legumes. I would try them again and if it happens then do not try them again. Try them at a later time after one year. I am a mom of a child who had allergies so severe from birth to one year he almost died. Good luck and keep me posted

You might want to hold off on feeding your 4 mo old solids....it is usually recommended to wait until they are 6 mo old and would start with one fruit for several days...and I would talk it over with your pediatrician.
allergies are so common nowadays and really do need to take it slow when introducing solids.

It is an allergic reaction to peas. My daughter had peas at 6 months - no problem. At 1 year - she started to break out around the mouth. Her doctor said it was allergic reaction but she would out grow it. I stopped the peas for 6 months and tried again. She eventually outgrew it at age 2. Some kids may never outgrow it. If the reaction is severe, definitely consult your doctor and do NOT give it to him until after you do an allergy test at age 3.
