Fondant and Modeling Chocolate

I am making a cake this weekend and I'm wondering, what is the best way to mold an edible person, and bows.? I've tried fondant for the bows, but it didn't work that great. I'm thinking modeling chocolate? Does anyone have a good recipe for modeling chocolate. And, when you roll fondant over a cake, do you roll it really thin or keep it thick?

What can I do next?

To make an edible person you are going to need plenty of drying time so you may not have time to get the person made and dry by this weekend. A lot of people use things like spaghetti as structure for their edible people. If you aren't worried about totally edible you could use wire to keep the head, arms, etc in place.

Fondant rolled thin is best but you can't roll it so thin that you can't handle it meaning it will rip when you lift it. If you have never covered a cake in fondant you may not want to experiment if this is an important event. Fondant takes time to get a feel for it and how to get it on a cake. Also make sure that your cake underneath is smooth and perfect. Your fondant will only look as good as the cake underneath.

I roll my fondant thin.
I like both fondant and modeling chocolate to form things.
White Chocolate Modeling Paste:
7 ounces (200 grams) white chocolate, chopped
1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
Good Luck!

Look for a marshmallow fondant so you can actually eat it, its less expensive too.

You can mold the people out of rice krispie treats, then cover them with fondant.

Modeling chocolate is super expensive. You can get tylose powder and mix it with the fondant. It turns it into a more moldable substance, and it hardens rock hard. You can also use gumpaste, but I've found the best results come from the tylose powder. Good luck, and have fun!
