Both of my kids have had colds and cough since Thanksgiving. No joke it has been that long... I am desperate for them to get better so I thought getting them to Florida for some fresh air, sun, and rest will be great for them. I am very worried about their ears on the flight. Does anyone have any suggestions other than having them eat or drink upon takeoff and landing?
One is 2 1/2 the other is 7 mos.
Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I'd give both of them something to drink when the pressure is at the greatest as that's the easiest way to help the ears alleviate the pressure. Your 2.5 year old would understand if you told them to open their mouth wide, I can't imagine the 7 month old would.

My guess is that you'll receive lots of responses about Benadryl to help them rest and be more comfortable. We never used it with our kids in any of our air travel. We were lucky that having a drink available did the trick.

Good luck!

I hate to say this, but I would not travel with sick kids. Who feels like traveling when they are sick, what about spreading germs to the other passengers onboard, and also, I was over being sick with a cold, but still had sinus pain and pressure and when we got to the full altitude, it felt like my head was going to implode for the rest of the trip! I was in pure agony and nothing helped! I just sat there, an adult woman, surrounded by all those other people with my head between my hands, trying not to scream in agony. A very kind flight attendant even handed me a styro cup with a napkin she had wet and put in the micro, and I had to hold those cups over my ears, to see if the steam or warmth helped. It relieved it a bit, but not very much. Plus, you can imagine how I felt holding those stupid cups over my ears. I have never flown again right after a cold. It's just not worth it. Kids are always more comfortable at home. I'd keep them there. I hate it when someone comes on a plane and is coughing or sneezing and spreading their germs all over me. You have to think of that, too. It's just NOT right. But, I wish you the best of luck with your miserable little ones. I know it makes you miserable too.

There are these things called earplanes and heard they work great. I would also use saline spreay in their noses and make sure you have motrin for them if they have any aches and pains in their ears. I would probably give them the motrin about 45 minutes before take off.

Make an appointment to take them to your pediatrician a few days before the trip to have their ears checked & make sure they don't have an infection. The Dr. can also tell you what medicine is safe to give children that age. I would not travel without an OK from the Dr. with sick kids.
