HI J.,

My advice to you would be to have a bottle or binky for your son. I have a 23 month old daughter and we fly back and forth from kc to ny and that has always worked for me in the past. another little tip midwest express flys into ny direct and the whole plane is first class if you did not know.

A little about me: my name is N. i am also from new york. we moved to lenexa about a year ago. iam also 25 years old. if you have any questions about anything feel free to
email me or call ____@____.com ###-###-####.

best of luck

Hi J.,

At four months, your little guy will probably be just fine if you have him sit with you and your dh; you probably don't really need to pay for the extra seat. He probably won't be crawling yet so he won't be as restless as if he were already mobile.

If you have him as a 'lap baby', then you might want to pack a couple little rattles and interesting things for him to play with. New is better because he won't get bored with it as fast.

I second the bottle or binky, or if you are nursing, just nurse him and he'll probably do great. Try to have him sucking and swallowing on something during take-off and landing, because the pressure changes can hurt their ears and that can really make them cry. A couple things for you to remember -- change the little dude's diaper right before you are getting on the plane, since some airplanes don't have changing tables and those that do are very cramped and usually kinda dirty in my experience. Maybe bring a change of clothes for him and change of shirt for you, since he might spit up.

I used a Baby Bjorn with my little guys at that age, and it worked great. It gave me free hands, and baby was happy being close to mama. Also my dh could use it if he wanted.

HTH! Have a great trip!

We just went on our 1st trip w/ our 2 (20 mos. and 7 mos.) and it was great. All I did was plan the flights around their schedules. We pretty much woke them up and threw them in the car at 6am, drinks at airport, food on plane. Worked great, 7 mos. old fell asleep the whole flight. Returning, same idea but late afternoon so we fed them on plane (7 mos. old fell asleep again)and just drove home and threw them right in bed. Even if they cry, people w/ kids will totally understand and people that don't have kids never will. Good luck!

When flying with my son, I used a sit'n stroll. It is an FAA approved carseat and stroller in one. It was a lifesaver because it made it so all the big bulky things ( individual car seat and stroller) were not necessary. If you have any questions, email me. Enjoy your trip.

My daughter flew back and forth from here to CA 6 times during her first year. What helps me is to feed her as soon as the plane pulls out. The suction will help him with the ear popping problem as the plane takes off. Also, chances are he may fall asleep after you feed him. Do the same thing prior to landing. Don't worry too much about what other passengers are thinking in case he cries. Try not to get to anxious as your anxiety may increase his tension. Everything will be fine. Enjoy your trip!
