Hi, We are taking our first airplane trip with our son, who will be 20 months old when we go. We did purchase his own seat, and will be taking his car seat on the plane to put in his seat. What do we need to know about the carseat and plane? I read on the FAA web site their info, but what have you personally found? What helped with the flight in this specific age range? Any other tips on traveling with a little one non- plane related is helpful too. We are going to Disney, so any tips on Disney with a 20 month old is also appreciated.... Thank you :)

What can I do next?

My son loved pens that lit up & stencils in the shapes of automobiles. Then we could 'drive' the cars & stencil them, and the pen lights were super cool! Stickers also work well. All those items take is one folder & some plain sheets of paper. Buy new 'special' toys that your son has never seen before to help keep his attention. Movies are great, but I have to say my most recent trip with my son (almost 3) is the first one that actually captured his attention -- other times they just didn't work, and he LOVES to watch TV!

Last summer we flew to Disney/Florida with our daughter who just turned 2 a couple weeks prior to the trip. I found it helped to defiitely take the car seat on the plane. You can bring a stroller and car seat all the way up to the boarding section. Right before you step foot on the plane, they will take your stroller so that it will be ready for you the minute you get off the plane. I definitely suggest taking your own stoller too. My sister paid 30.00 a day at some parks for stroller rentals.Besides, some of the parks drop you off far from your car and you'll have to carry him if you don't bring it. On the plane, we brought snacks, a portable dvd player, her favorite comfort toys, and put her by the window. The way there was a little rougher than the way back. On the way there she really wanted out and to walk around. We took turns holding her to ease her annoyance with not being able to get out. The way back was much smoother since she knew what to expect. Also, bring something for him to chew on during the flight so his ears don't hurt.
The parks I sugest are Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure(they have a lot for kids), Blizzard Beach(she had a blast there), and Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Sudios. Also, Mickey's Backyard BBQ was the best character dinner I've been to, and I have been to a ton of them. Enjoy your trip. Just bring him some things from home he's used to, and toys to play with on the plane and while there.

I fly internationally with my child several times a year. My only other tip is that the aircraft is hot inside, bring layered clothes so you can strip the child off if he becomes irrated by the warmth.

Disney is one of my favorite places in the world.... you are sooo lucky! My kids were little babies when we started going. You'll love it. Its excellent that he has his own seat on the plane. If the carseat doesn't fit in the seat, they will just store it on the plane. Just do your best to bring stuff that will keep him busy and occupied. Make sure he has something to drink or chew on while ascending to keep his ears from hurting. Don't bring toys that make lots of noises because people will tolerate a busy child longer than they will tolerate hearing a cow mooing or a bell dinging for a whole flight.

Make sure you allow plenty of time through the airport. 2 1/2 - 3 hours, especially if you are travelling during peak season. Are you travelling over Spring Break??? Busy time if you are... just do your best to take advantage of any early or late hours that will be offered if you are staying on property.

Make sure you follow the FAA guildlines on liquids to a T. That means... if you have only 2 ounces of liquid (i.e. sun-screen) in a 6 ounce bottle, it will be confiscated if it is in a carry-on case - they won't care... the size of the bottle can matter too, depending on the person in charge. It's best just to check luggage with all liquids.

If you need any specific Disney question answered, just personal message me.
