Flush Wipes?

My husband and I have debated this. I don't flush wipes, (or I try not to) because I am afraid they will mess up the septic system. We are in a subdivision, so we are on public sewer, but I still worry about it. My husband, on the other hand, says that it won't back it up. So, I need a poll. Do you flush the wipes or trash them?

P.S.

I tried the flushable wipes, and they suck.

What can I do next?

We do not flush them ~ we have a septic and the guy who comes out to drain it every couple years tells us to not flush wipes or tampons...ever.

No, you are right. To back this up, we recently had a minor sewer backup and the guy who came said the only thing to go in the toilet should be poop, pee and paper, and we have to stop using the really soft toilet paper, too! I digress...

I throw wipes in the trash. My 6 year old has a physical disability and because of that is not potty trained. The school uses flushables wipes there with her. They prefer them and so does she.

No, I never ever flush wipes unless they are the flushable ones. At our old house they got caught and it was a messy, expensive fix!

I don't flush them unless they are the flushable ones. I used them with my youngest when he was having issues getting his bootie clean on his own.

We had the same debate till the plumber just found a bunch backed up in our toilet. He said they don't breakdown like toilet paper. I loved telling DH about it after mentioning the 200.00 bill. :)

We never flush the wipes either. We even had an issue with the flushable wipes clogging up the toilet. Like Stephanie H. I have also heard never to flush wipes, or tampons they clog up the pipes.

Flushable wipes arent. I use regular toilet paper for the "initial cleanup", then wipes to be extra clean and gentler on my bottom. Less stinky in the trash.

God NO! Not baby wipes.
Flushable wet wipes, yes....
Regular baby wipes or Wet Ones-type wipes--NO!

If the wipes are not labeled flushable then I wouldn't flush them. The problem is that they're bulky and can clog the pipe causing the toilet to not flush.

I do not flush unflushable wipes. Regular baby wipes get rolled up in the diaper to go out with the trash. When she could not use wipes, we used paper towels and did the same, or used washcloths that I put in a bin next to the changing table and washed with that day's load of wipes/cloth diapers. Even if you are on a sewer system, stuff like wipes or paper towels or large amounts of regular toilet paper can mess up your pipes before it GETS to the sewer. I wouldn't flush them.

From someone who has had to have their sewer line replaced (although we do NOT flush wipes and that was not the cause) I would say no, no, no, no, no!!! :-)

Trash em. It is so not fun to have your toilet clog and overflow. Be nice to your pipes!

My plumber told me that even if the label say flushable not to flush them. The flushable ones break down very slowly and will clog your sewer lines.

My neighbors sewer backed up and caused her basement to flood. When the plumber came, he said it was caused by the FLUSHABLE wipes. He said not to use them. I would have to say no on the flushing of the wipes.

I figure because they make "flushable wipes," that most wipes aren't flushable (otherwise, they would label them as such!)

NO DONT FLUSH WIPES down the toilet unless it specifically says flushable wipes. The wipes can clog up. Its like why public restrooms all have saying not to flush paper towels down the toilets. It completely fucks up the toilet and the store has to manually clean out the toilet or call a plumber. Read the packages completely and you will see the words or pictures of saying DONT THROW IN TOILET.

NEVER flush wipes ever! Not down ANY toilet! I thought that was common knowledge. It WILL back up and it's not good for septic nor is it good for sewer systems. They don't break down the same way in water as they do in the garbage can.

Trash them. Always, always trash them.

For that matter, always trash nose tissues and paper towels too.

No flushing of the wipes!!!! My sil had poo (sorry if anyone is eating) coming up in her kitchen sink because they had been flushing wipes and had blocked their whole system. Puts me in mind of my sisters sil who blocked the toilet when she was staying with her inlaws and instead of wrapping up her sanitary towels/pads and tampons and putting them in the trash she used to flush them down the toilet!!! Pretty embarrassing when the plumber came and announced to everyone what the problem was. haha

We had our septic pumpeda few years ago and they said they had difficulty cleaning it out due to the flushable wipes that had not disintegrated. We no longer flush the wipes.
