My SIL has had an awesome pregnancy until yesterday --- she went to the dr. yesterday for her 34 week checkup and they said the baby has a cleft lip (both sides), enlarged stomach, baby's legs were a week behind in development and the baby's has a lot of fluid in the back of her neck..........
what does all of this mean???? we are so scared and worried. she goes to a specialist tomorrow but i've been looking on the internet and it all sounds horrible.....is it as bad as it seems??????????

Thanks so much for all of the prayers!!!
She went to the specialist yesterday and found out that the baby is not compatible with life. It is Trisomy 18.
We are crushed but trying to deal with it the best way we know how.
Thank you again for all of the support! You guys are awesome!

J. I'm also praying for your family. This has too be so hard on your SIL. I'm sorry I can't give you more information, yes, I do think it's serious, any time there is fluid that isn't suppose to be there it's serious.
Again, I'm praying for all of you!

I found this website...
Trisomy 18 org

A perinatologist will be the most indicated to address this. It could mean a lot!
What I can say to you is WE are praying for you and your family! Just keep making him feel loved.

J.,

I'm so sorry your family is having to go through this. My hubby is a nurse and not a doc, but he said it sounds a lot like hydrops fetalis? But doesn't show all signs of it. However, way more testing/specialists looking will need to be done to really know for sure. If it were just the bilateral clefts, it would be correctable. But hubby says more concerning is the fluid in the neck and distended abdomen (ascites). Again, it could be so many different things...but you are very right to be concerned. We'll be thinking about you guys. Please let us know what she is told from the specialists!!!!!
